Living the Dream Year 5 Day 360 – The Wellington – Garage Day 15 – Garage complete, Koral and Boone Trace Trail

Year 5, Day 360 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 4/25/2026, , The Wellington. Spent a little time with Koral today. Visited her at Berea College. Koral gave me a tour of her dorm. Really lovely old building. The staircase and moldings everywhere were awesome. After our tour we proceeded to Just Love Coffee cafe for breakfast. The cafe was so loud it was almost impossible to talk. Bad acoustics in the building. The employees were super nice, but the food was not so good. I had an egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich on sour dough bread. They used an iron of some sort to press the sandwich. It was hard and it cut up the roof of my mouth. Then we decided to burn off some calories and get a little nature peace. Remember the Cafe was LOUD. We proceeded to The Boone Trace Trail. The trail is located really close to Koral’s dorm and follows a historic path blazed by Daniel Boone. We meandered alongside Brushy Fork Creek through a wooded environment. It is a tranquil setting for walking and talking. The creek was low due to this year’s drought. This is a great short trail for all ages to get out into nature. The trail we walked was well maintained with new park benches situated throughout. We walked the main trail and there was a large gravel parking area at each end. It is basically a level wide path. We passed people of all ages with their fur babies enjoying the trail. The trail does close at dusk.

Back at the homefront, the garage is complete. It looks soooo nice.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 358 – The Wellington – Outside finishing touches

Year 5, Day 358 “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 4/23/2026, The Wellington. We have one strange Alexa. Steve told her to add something to our shopping list for herself while she was adding items for us. Well I am in the store later using that shopping list and she had added AI maintenance oil. What a hoot is that?

Working on the outside beautification on this beautiful day.

In the evening Justin and Bobi came by with their brake to create and bend a last little piece of aluminum trim. That small area of block wall was never finished. We have a few Bore bees again this year. They did not like us working on that aluminum piece. Tomorrow they are gone.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 353 – The Wellington – Mulching, Jacob confirmation

Year 5, Day 353 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 4/18/2026, The Wellington.

More front garden mulch work.

Jacob confirmation. Isn’t modern technology wonderful 700 miles away and it is like we are right there in the church. We couldn’t be more proud of him.

White flowers in our gardens are blooming just for him as he receives his confirmation. White flowers are deeply symbolic in Catholic Confirmation, representing purity, holiness, and the Virgin Mary.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 347 – The Wellington – Garage day 8, Bel Canto Treble Singers

Year 5, Day 347 “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 4/12/2026, The Wellington. Sunday/Funday.

Purchased new small high top patio table

Cleaned up half of the garage

Enjoyed the Berea College Bel Canto Treble Singers. Very awesome performance. Koral loves this group. Berea College Bel Canto Treble Singers is an inclusive ensemble of approximately 30 singers, open to all Berea College students who sing in the alto or soprano ranges, regardless of major. Bel canto literally means “beautiful singing” in Italian. It refers to a style of operatic singing and technique originating in Italy. This group of singers perform a mix of musical styles, including folk, traditional, and popular music, in both sacred and secular settings. The ensemble is designed to deliver a high-pitched, clear vocal sound (soprano range) rather than a deep, mixed-voice sound. They do one concert each semester, Christmas Concerts, and performances as part of the college chapel services throughout the semester.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 346 – The Wellington – Yard work, Renos, Maple tree

Year 5, Day 346 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 4/11/2026, The Wellington. Yard work, lunch out, and Lowes.

Look at the maple tree grow. You can see new growth everyday. Justin dug up a twig baby maple last year from under a tree at his house and brought to us. No way did we think it would grow when we planted it. One year later and she looks happy. One day that tree will mark this house. People will say. “I live in the blue house with the large maple tree in the front yard.”

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 343 – Clifty Hill 3 – Water line installed

Year 5, Day 343 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 4/08/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Steve was up and out before sunrise to jackhammer the rock.

By noon time the water line, tracer, and hydrant had been installed by Dick’s Plumbing.

Inspector will be here on Friday. We were able to backfill the ditch in the afternoon . PVC pipes were placed at intervals where the inspector can look at the line and tracer. He can also measure the depth of the trench at those points. It took 160 gallons of water to fill the water line to the hydrant.

The internet company came out and inspected all lines and boxes to the house. They said everything is working perfectly. We decided it must be a router issue. While changing the router we discovered the connection into our old router had burn marks. A new internet router was installed and within a few hours the internet cut out again. Well, apparently that wasn’t the issue. Internet company can not find the issue with our internet.

Other interesting news. We put up a mail box for Clifty Hill 3.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 342 – Clifty Hill 3 – Water line excavated

Year 5, Day 342 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 4/07/2026, Clifty Hill 3. The plumber is coming tomorrow to install the water line back to the new build site.. We picked up the supplies needed to run the water line back 450 feet and put in a frost free water hydrant.

Then Steve worked really late digging the trench to a minimum of 30 inches. He had to dig across the new driveway in order to run up the right side of the driveway.

Tomorrow he has to be out at 6am jack hammering some rock out from around the drainage ditch where he could not dig to 30 inches.

We continue to have internet issues. Everyday we have to restart our router at least once. Last time we called mice had built a nest in one of the internet companies boxes down the street. Wonder if they are back!

Setting up the extra bedroom took a creative twist. I ended up taking pictures to try and create a picture to blow up and place on the large wall in the main living area.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 341 – The Wellington – Garage Day 6, water meter installed

Year 5, Day 341 “Living the Dream”. Monday, 4/06/2026, The Wellington. Another day of spackling the garage. Almost ready to paint.

After work we headed to Lowes for more spackle and landscaping plants.

Look at the Vanderhall three-wheeled motorcycle we saw in the Lowes parking lot. It operates more like a car but is registered as a motorcycle in many places. Vanderhall Motor Works is an American boutique “autocycle” manufacturer that bridges the gap between a car and a motorcycle. The company was founded in 2010 and is based in Provo, Utah.

We were only out for two hours. When we got home the new town water meter was set for Clifty Hill 3. Of course they set it on the wrong side of the driveway. Going to have to run under the driveway now to other side. Then run to back lot. Tomorrow is excavation day. Plumber is coming Wednesday.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 340 – The Wellington – Happy Easter, Lily planting

Year 5, Day 340 “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 4/05/2026, The Wellington. Happy Easter. Easter is celebrated by Catholic and Protestant churches worldwide.

Easter is a movable holiday that changes annually, falling on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25. It is calculated as the first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. In 82 years Easter has fallen two times on April 5th. The reason this stands out to me is because my sister Mary was so excited this morning. Her birthday is today. So a double celebration for her. Another interesting thing that marks this day is that in 1614 Pocahontas was married on this day. April 16 is the most common date for Easter. March 22, March 23, and March 24 are among the least common. Did you know that historically, eggs were forbidden during Lent, making them a special celebratory food permitted again on Easter Sunday.

Gifts are often given gifts on Easter to spread love.

Steve put down the weed killer. Have to get rid of those Dandelions. No one on the street has them like our yard.

We planted shrubs and flowers around the back patio in the morning.

Went to plant the Caladium bulb and there were none in the package. Only sawdust. Never had that happen before.

We planted a few orange lilies which symbolize confidence, energy, passion, and warmth. Did you know orange lilies are poisonous to cats.

Are you keeping track of gas prices. It is now $3.91 a gallon here.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 336 – The Wellington – April Fools Day – The Garage is Finished HA HA

Year 5, Day 336 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 4/01/2026, The Wellington. It is Red Bud blooming season.

It is also Dandelion season. Mowed the lawn yesterday and this morning those dandelions are huge again. They are standing tall in the freshly mowed grass. I have read that mowing often stimulates faster growth. We have been holding off on putting down Scotts fertilizer with weed killer. Thinking it might kill our baby grass. Well we ordered Scotts Turf Builder Weed and Feed from Amazon today. It was a good deal. Less expensive than Lowes. We are going to take care of those pesky Dandelions. Our house is the worse looking in the neighborhood with the number of dandelions in the yard.

In other news gas is $3.99 a gallon today. Last Happy April Fools Day – The Garage is finished!! Nope – the day was spent on outside stuff and running around purchasing more plants.

Also spent a little more time watching the dance competition videos again. Beautiful graceful young lady.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 335 – The Wellington – Flowering Cherry Tree

Year 5, Day 335 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 3/31/2026, The Wellington. The cruise ships just keep getting bigger. BUT is bigger better??? Royal Caribbean named its fourth Icon-class ship Hero of the Seas. It is scheduled to arrive in Miami in August 2027. This ship will have nine pools, twenty eight dining venues, and be divided into eight neighborhoods. They are saying this ship will have the largest Waterpark at sea. Of course the ship will have Royal’s signature Rock Climbing wall and sports courts. The open-air Central Park with contain more than 30,500 live plants. The ship will also contain the largest ice skating arena at sea called Absolute Zero. The Hero of the Seas sailings are supposed to be open for booking this week. The ship will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami. Both sailings will stop at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

In our little world the new flowering Cherry tree has new flowers. It is loving its home on Clifty Hill Road. Oh yes sometimes a yard maintenance day needs to take place. It is not always about Finishing the Garage.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 332 – The Wellington – Garage finishing Day 3, Bobi BD, Julianna Cotillion

Year 5, Day 332 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 3/28/2026, The Wellington. A little morning garage spackling.

Then Bobi’s Birthday celebration was underway. Birthday dinner menu included Focaccia Bread, White bean dip, Cream cheese stuffed celery, Carrot sticks, Zucchini Parmesan Crisps, Lasagne, and cheesecake. This was my first time making Focaccia Bread. I used the cold proof method. Mixed it up yesterday and placed in refrigerator overnight. Then pulled it out and let it rise for 4 hours this morning before baking it. It was awesome. Also the first time for making White Bean dip. Yummy yummy. Have you ever been to Rustic Kitchen. We used to eat there alot when we went to Mohican Sun in Pennsylvania. My hope was to duplicate their Focaccia Bread and White Bean dip. It WORKED.

Ordered NAD+ supplement. Now I am nervous to take it. Anyone taking it? I am always looking for things to make us healthier as we age. I have read really good things about it.

PJP had their Freshmen/Sophomore Cotillion last night. Julianna is growing into a beautiful woman.

Thoughts to ponder.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 331 – The Wellington – Garage Finishing Day 2, Inside front door painted

Year 5, Day 331 “Living the Dream”. Friday, 3/27/2026, The Wellington. 7am and the 8 yards of mulch is here.

Garage spackling is going good. Lots of corner bead being installed.

Inside of front door has been painted. Not black like I wanted, but you can’t always get your way. Steve wanted white. It looks nice and clean though.

I am happy to see a USIC truck in the driveway. That means they should be digging soon to put in the new water meter. USIC marks where underground utility lines (electric, gas, water, or communication) are located. This is done to prevent damage before excavation.

Want to be in a movie? Now is the time here in somerset, KY
