Year 6, Day 159. “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 10/06/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 54. It is a gorgeous sunny breezy perfect day to be working outside. Perfect to be up on the roof. By the end of the day, the roof is all sheathed and covered with synthetic underlayment.

Had a nice dinner and evening with Justin and Bobi. They are spending the night to be around in case the mason and crew don’t show up in the morning. IMI is delivering at 7am. IMI is a new company for us. IMI used to be Pyles concrete. Plyes concrete closed down and IMI took over. We originally started with Pyles on the Williamsburg. When they closed, we started using SRM concrete. We have been turned off on the concrete being delivered from SRM. Hopefully this new supplier will supply better a better quality product.

Year 6, Day 155. “Living the Dream”. Friday, 10/02/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 51. Cooler nice day. The mason came by to check out the garage. He will be bringing four guys on Wednesday to work on the garage concrete floor. Working on the front of the garage into the master bedroom valley roof today. We will need to purchase more sheathing before we can proceed to the rear garage roof.

Year 6, Day 154. “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 10/01/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 50. It was a nice cool breezy day. The garage roof rafters are completed.

The garage walls are all sheathed and covered with Tyvek. We are framed in and ready for the garage doors to be installed on Monday. Wednesday the garage floor gets poured.

Look at my new nutcracker – SPOOKY!!! He is set to say welcome to our home.

Year 6, Day 153. “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 9/30/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 49. Nice morning for a beautiful country drive and then a nice town walk.

In town there were lots of Halloween decorations around.

Another discovery was the many magnolia trees with their huge seed pods. As these pods mature, I understand that they will split open to reveal bright red or orange seeds.

Justin picked up the last few roof rafters needed, and they were installed while I was out. They also worked on loading the scrap wood to be taken away.

After walking I headed to Kroger and ran into their yearly 90% off clothing clearance prices. Incredible prices with prices like $2.00 for jeans, less than $2.00 for Reeboks, 70 cents for flip flops, $2.59 for bathing suits – OK you get the idea of the good deals.

Then I headed to Lowes and crawled under the bottom shelf to get another good deal. Three 25 pound buckets of three inch deck screws for $83.30. They were a good deal. As I was crawling under the shelf with my butt sticking out. I was hoping that my underwear was not hanging out. Okay a man stops behind me and says those screws must be a deal.

Year 6, Day 151. “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/28/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 47. It has been a long hard day. This is a difficult ridge with the way it connects to the main house. The rafters are individually cut to different lengths at the cut in spot. The garage ridge is up, and the garage doors are coming next Monday. We hired a mason to do the garage floor. He will be coming next week after the Garage doors are installed. We are moving along pretty quickly now.

Year 6, Day 150. “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 9/27/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 46. Counting yesterday’s half day of garage to basement stair building and today’s half day of garage door framing as one day of framing.

Tomorrow the garage ridge goes up Lots of time was spent cleaning the inside up. It is very hard to work around all the tools and Lumber laying around.

Another subject BIRD MIGRATION. Sometimes we sit in the evening after dark on the deck. Oh my, I just learned that currently there are over 27 million birds migrating every evening after dark. How many of these are flying over us as we have an evening glass of wine. Should I be covering my drink? Look at the Kentucky – Migration Dashboard – BirdCast https://share.google/rgeBDXtr7NL3J947k. I was unaware of the number of birds that migrate through the United States each year. Billions of birds migrate through the United States each year, with roughly 4 billion birds moving south from Canada into the U.S. each autumn and another 4.7 billion birds crossing the southern U.S. border toward the tropics. That number is staggering to me. Birds are migrating now primarily because the shortening daylight hours trigger internal hormonal changes that signal them to fly south. Shorter days in the Northern Hemisphere alter hormone levels, creating a natural and urgent drive to move. Also, a declining insect population, freezing ground, and dormant plants mean the northern regions will soon lack enough food to support them. Favorable northern tailwinds and drops in barometric pressure help launch nightly mass departures. The Arctic Tern migrates the most, traveling roughly 56,000 to 60,000 miles from the Arctic breeding grounds in the north down to the Antarctic. Do you know that the Ostrich is the largest living bird on Earth. It stands up to nine feet tall and weighs over 300 pounds. Two to three people die from ostrich encounters every year. The Ostrich is one large, powerful bird. It is very territorial. They kick with immense force when defending their nests or territory. Okay enough of bird cover my drink.

Here is a nice pic of the front lower-level window in the Williamsburg. Maybe some blinds should be hung for privacy. Justin and Bobi have been staying overnight sometimes and using that room. The extra bedroom on the main level has blinds.

Year 6, Day 149. “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 9/26/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Basement stairs from the garage are usable. It is exciting news. Walking stairs in flip flops is a lot safer than climbing a ladder. Flip flops and ladders are not a good combination.

Yesterday was National Daughters Day. Today I want to express my gratitude to Jenna and Bobi. I couldn’t ask for better daughters. Love them both so much.

Year 6, Day 147. “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 9/24/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 44. A high of 80 degrees on my deck and I am wishing I had pants on. After it being 120 on the deck the last few weeks this is cold.

We have lost our lunch time view. The front corner bedroom wall and floor are closed in. SRM concrete used that spot for Monday’s basement pour.

The afternoon consisted of some mowing, weed trimming, and edging.

Love getting pics of the grandkids.

Then the old time memories blow you away.

Year 6, Day 146. “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 9/23/2026, Clifty Hill 3. A little walking, a little lumber pick up, and then afternoon company. This was an unusual day for us. Not the Somerset morning walk. (Actually, the walk was a little different we walked over route 80).

Not the Lowes, and Lumber King shopping. YES, it was having company over. We had such a good time spending the afternoon eating and socializing with Kathy, Willie and Milo Wang. AND it was not all about building and real estate. We even got to experience fruit from their garden. I had never heard of Che fruit or Jujube fruit. And never tasted Pawpaw before. Such a fun experience trying new fruits. The Mandarin Melon Berry is also called Che or Chinese mulberry. The bright red berries are clustered together. I was a little nervous tasting them, but they were great. They were soft chewy and sweet tasting like a fig and melon blended together. The Jujube is also known as the red date or Chinese date. It was crunchy juicy and sweet like an apple. Reading about the Jujube it is widely used in Asian herbal traditions to promote relaxation, improve sleep quality, and support digestion. Definitely out of my comfort zone trying these new fruits.

I love cooking and having people over. The menu included Arancini balls, Focaccia Bread, meatballs, white bean dip, marinara sauce, fresh grated parmesan cheese, veggie sticks, olives, and vanilla ice cream topped with Limoncello and Biscoff biscuits. Let’s not forget the cosmopolitans. It was an afternoon of appetizers and lively conversation. Guess what – yes, you know me. Good times not working and I always forget the pictures. But look at the beautiful flowers they brought. Thank you, Kathy and Willie, so much for brightening up today and probably the next week with this gorgeous bouquet.

Year 6, Day 145. “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 9/22/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 43. We had some appointments. We found the Somerset Hollywood style sign on our way back into town. It is located at the interchange of US Route 80 and Kentucky Route 461 in the Shopville area. It was exciting as I had read about that sign on Facebook.

Justin and Bobi finished putting the Tyvek up while we were away for the day. Additionally, they took care of the trapped little basement frog. Justin is the frog whisperer.

Remember this day where he was the skunk whisperer. Living the Dream Day 236 – Deestimes – Make every step of the journey count What a fantastic surprise to come home and see the four hunter green rocking chairs fully assembled. They look so nice on the back patio. Thank you, Justin, and Bobi.

Year 6, Day 144. “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/21/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Concrete floor work is hard sweaty back breaking work. Up at 5am and out by 6am. Justin and Bobi came last night and spent the night.

SRM Concrete arrived at 7:30am with the first truck.

It was thicker than Steve expected which made it harder to level. There were two drivers with the truck. One was a trainee and one was the trainer. The trainer ended up assisting us in the basement. He was an excellent worker. He had lots of experience with concrete. I watched in my shorts and flip flops. I was the gopher person though. No aerobics this morning. My gopher tasks did give me a little ladder climbing workout.

The second truck was loaded at 7am and arrived here at 9:15am. Work was still being done with the first truck load when the second truck arrived. 9:45am the first truck was cleaning up. As I watched these sweating workers. I read a Bloomberg report that MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. is in talks to acquire the roughly 80% majority stake in German cruise-ship builder Meyer Werft GmbH that is currently held by the German federal government and the state of Lower Saxony. MSC is a major frontrunner, but sources indicate that other suitors could still emerge for the state-held stake. Also, my granddaughter Julianna attended the sixth annual Pennsylvania March for Life in Harrisburg with her school.

There was enough in the second truck to fill in the back deck post holes as planned.

Equipment clean-up was very difficult as the concrete was much harder than it should have been. We have decided not to use SRM concrete in the future.

Year 6, Day 143. “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 9/20/2026, Clifty Hill 3. The 16×24 Back deck was measured, and the pier holes were marked for digging. The mini excavator was used for most of the digging. The final digging had to be done by hand. Any overage from the 15 yards fo concrete coming on Monday for the basement will go into these pier holes.

We are ready for the concrete. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day and we want everything set up and ready to go. The needed tools are all set up and ready to go.

Year 6, Day 142. “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 9/19/2026, Clifty Hill 3. A quick little trip to Lowes.

Then back home for a final check to ensure we are ready for the concrete basement pour.

Yup the winch is ready to bring the machine down for floor finishing. Can’t wait till Tuesday. Concrete pouring days are stressful.

Year 6, Day 141. “Living the Dream”. Friday, 9/18/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 42. Another brutally hot day. Started the day with coffee at the Beanstalk coffee shop located in the Old City Hall in Somerset, KY. Great coffee with some lovely friends and a black cat. The cool decorating starts before you even enter the coffee shop. It even gets better when you open the shop door. Step in and look up high to see where the beanstalk goes. The interior decorating in this little coffee shop is awesome. You don’t know where to look first. Every corner has something new for your eyes to experience.

The sun is awful in the afternoon. Three garage walls are sheathed now. Work is moving along steadily.

Year 6, Day 140. “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 9/17/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 41. The synthetic underlayment is on the front roof of the master bedroom area. The front seven windows are all in.

We are short a window nail fin kit. All the house windows can not be installed until we get another one.

The area between the bedroom roof and main roof is sheathed in. In the afternoon heat the basement was prepared for Monday’s concrete pour. Lights were installed and six mil plastic vapor barrior was put down. Also a frog was captured and removed from the basement. Lots and lots of spiders are now under the vapor barrier in the gravel. They will be forever entombed on Monday.

One last comment.: THIS SUN IS BRUTAL.

Year 6, Day 138. “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 9/15/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 39. We had the one day of nicer warm weather yesterday. Today it is up over 100 again. I am ready for this hot weather to be gone. Looking forward to some crisp fall weather.

Ooh almost forgot HAPPY BIRTHDAY REINA! Hope you have a fantastic day. We seem to be progressing pretty quickly now. Six windows and the front door are in. The concrete is coming next Monday at 7am for the main house full basement floor. The winch was taken down after lunch. The fly rafters were then installed. Heading to Lowes now to pick up the last window.

Year 6, Day 135. “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 9/12/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 37. Another open house for the Wellington in the pouring rain. Clifty Hill 3 was pretty wet inside, but the Wellington was dry and welcoming for potential new owners. Started pouring as soon as the open house started and stopped at the end of the open house. We wanted to show how the Wellington was a super cozy home. Clifty Hill 3 will also be that way soon.

Even though it really rained . The roof on the front of the main house is sheathed and the synthetic underlayment is down. There is a lot of roof on this house. We have used 2,000 square feet of roofing underlayment so far.

Look at the size of these bedroom windows. They let in the natural light. These are Steve’s pictures allowing you to get an idea of the size of these windows. Along with the nine foot ceilings. They are going to make the rooms feel so bright and airy. The views are the added bonus!

Year 6, Day 134. “Living the Dream”. Friday, 9/11/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing day 36. Today is September 11th. REMEMBER how many people were affected on that day twenty-five years ago.

It is a hot hot HOT day. We are into getting rain now. Rained last night, this morning, and sun showers in the afternoon. Had to use the wet/dry vacuum again to get rid of the water on the Advantech sub flooring where the roof sheathing and synthetic underlayment has not been put down. Two windows are now installed. One in the rear bedroom and one in the kitchen. They look great and are bringing the home to life. Each window added makes the home seem more real. What gorgeous views here.

The three torn screens will be replaced. We never add the screens to the windows but store for future owners. We like the views without the screens.

Sheathing is started on the front roof and the synthetic underlayment is going down quickly. Fantastic progress was made today in the hot sun before the afternoon rain.

Ooh another Amazon package just arrived with more tools. Always more tools. Steve loves opening his packages and playing with his tools in the evenings.

The Wellington is ready to open her doors for tomorrow’s open house.

Year 6, Day 133. “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 9/10/2026, Clifty Hill 3.. Half day work today. Appointments in the morning. While we were out it rained fairly hard. In the afternoon we had to use the wet/dry vacuum to suck up the water in the home where it is not sheathed in yet. There was a little more rain in the afternoon. It was basically a sun shower with no rainbow. We back filled the rear and the left hand side of the home in the rain.

Year 6, Day 132. “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 9/09/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 35. The back of the house main roof sheathing is up and covered with synthetic roof underlayment. Amazing, the rear inside of the main house will stay dry. Unused lumber and scrap lumber were moved away from the back and the left side of the home in preparation for back filling around finished foundation walls.

Purchasing shirts for sun protection and a new plant to bring some money into our house

Year 6, Day 131. “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 9/08/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 34. Always a good day when you start with a little exercising.

Roof sheathing started on the back of the main section of the house. About two thirds of that section has sheathing by the end of the day. Work is progressing well and vacation time is a little over a month away. The weather was clear and warm, perfect for the outdoor work. Haha that is a joke – IT IS HOT. In fact the extreme sun and heat had warped some of the rafters.

Time for a little fall door refresh. Adding a seasonal wreath makes the Wellington feel so inviting.

Settled in after a full day with a little flashback memories.

Year 6, Day 130. “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/07/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 33. Happy Labor Day. Fall is here even if the temperatures don’t reflect it. We are trying to get this house under roof. Focus has shifted away from garage framing now. Trying to protect it from the rain that we know has got to be coming soon. It is super dry here now. Plastering and tarring on both ends of the homes foundation is completed.

Fly rafters are installed on both sides of the main home. We are ready to sheath that side. Lots of braces were removed from the inside. Hopefully that will eliminate the head damages. It is amazing how many times we can all bang our heads on those braces.

While Steve and Justin are working in the hot sun.

I am trying to add a little fall decorations inside the Wellington. Preparing for our Fall Open House on Saturday.

We also spent time cleaning the Wellington’s gardens up. Time to get some mums and pumpkins
