Living the Dream Year 4 Day 335 – The Wellington – Downstairs bathroom tile ready to be grouted

Year 4, Day 335, “Living the Dream”. Monday, 3/31/2025. The Wellington – Batman finished the downstairs bathroom tile today.

Now it just needs to be grouted and the shower doors hung. That statement was a little simplified. The vanity, toilet, closet door, closet shelving, mirror, and trim have to be installed also. Lots of work to be done yet in that little space. We think we have some mice again in the interior wall. At least something is bringing that insulation into that wall from the exterior wall.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 334 – The Wellington – Downstairs bathroom door and saddle installed

Year 4, Day 334, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 3/30/2025. The Wellington -It is a slow relaxing day here. Cleaning up cardboard, and sweeping up spackle dust.

Making calzones

Oh okay, not that relaxing. The downstairs bathroom door was installed. It has to be down before installing the doorway saddle. A lot of wood shims are used to install an interior door. They are needed to make the door plum.

Tomorrow is tile the lower level bathroom floor day. The same tile is going on the floor as the shower.

Another nice design to add to our collection.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 333 – The Wellington – Downstairs shower tiling complete, repotting plants

Year 4, Day 333, “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 3/29/2025. The Wellington – The shower tiling is complete. Need to grout it still. We are going with Charcoal color.

The window sill is tiled so plants can sit in that window. The tile protects the sill from dripping plant water.

Tilling that window sill must have made me think of my plants. It was a beautiful day to repot and split some plants up. Hope they take transplanting well.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 332 – The Wellington – Downstairs shower tiling

Year 4, Day 332, “Living the Dream”. Friday, 3/28/2025. The Wellington – We are back to work. We decided the downstairs bathroom needs to be finished. This way, we can call for the final plumbing inspection. Steve started tiling the shower. I think I like this darker shower tile better than the other two bathrooms.

We did get to watch Jacob and Joshua perform today even though we weren’t there in person. Love love love modern day technology. What a great age we live in. Julianna was unable to perform due to that nasty bug keeping her in bed.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 331 – The Wellington – Disappointing day driving home from West Virginia

Year 4, Day 331, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 3/27/2025. The Wellington – Well sometimes things just get turned around. We spent the night in West Virginia last night and are headed back home today. Now we are really going the wrong way.

Sickness has struck in our daughter’s house. We had thought it was all gone. Two of the five had a bug that lasted about a week. It appeared no one else was getting it. Well this morning the granddaughter got it. Yup, we decided to be prudent and not go stay in their house. What a bummer it is driving home today. Everything in me says just go you will be fine. You are being stupid, but we are cruising the end of this week. Steve just keeps saying are you going to cry all day. Okay, maybe I am so what. You stick to your driving and let me sulk for awhile. Okay my head is back in the game and I am okay – Things happen for a reason. So it is back home to work on cleaning out the other two bedrooms and starting on spackling them. Oh and one last think – I DIDN’T GET MY NORTHEAST PIZZA! Nowhere else do you get pizza like in NJ, NY, and PA. We did stop at little Disney World. That is Buc-ee’s. The owners of this store must be jumping with joy. It is s Thursday at 2pm and it is mobbed

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 330 – The Wellington – On the road again traveling to Pennsylvania

Year 4, Day 330, “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 3/26/2025. The Wellington – On the road again. It is a beautiful sunny day heading northeast to Pennsylvania.

I feel like we are going the wrong way. The trees are blooming more in West Virginia. However, by 2pm it is much colder than at our Kentucky house. I prefer to drive into the warmth.

I will put up with the cold in order to visit Jenna and her family. It is always great to see her office improvements as well. It is more exciting to see family than to travel. Getting more excited as the afternoon rolls on and we get closer to our destination.

I felt the need to get myself cleaned up. MANI PEDI time.

Year 4, Day 327, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 3/23/2025. The Wellington – It’s an off day for Batman and Wonder Woman. We headed in the Equinox Batmobile to Mckinney, Kentucky which is about a 45 minute drive through Amish country. It was pretty funny the looks we got driving down the street. We did get a lot of waves on the drive and that was fun.

There we attended Spencer’s Superhero five year old birthday party.

Year 4, Day 325, “Living the Dream”. Friday, 3/21/2025. The Wellington – As the bang bang, bang hardwood flooring continues in our house.

Life continues around us. The woodpecker does his daily pecking at the deck railing. I think he is in a competition with the nail gun.

Jacob receives an award from Montgomery County Science Fair for his science project “Dirty Mouth Cleanup”. What a smart driven boy he is. Congratulations Jacob to a job well done.

Then Spencer turned five. Happy Birthday Spencer. Wow, does time fly by.

I started the day with a little coffee time at Rhoades Coffee Place with ladies from the Newcomers Club. It was nice to get away from the loud noise. Then it was back to work.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 324 – The Wellington – Kitchen Hardwood Floor completed, grew 3/4 inch

Year 4, Day 324, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 3/20/2025. The Wellington -Today is another bang bang, bang hardwood flooring day. It is like listening to a gun firing all day.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 323 – The Wellington – Lexington Endodontist root canal

Year 4, Day 323, “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 3/19/2025. The Wellington – Today is an off day. We headed to Lexington, KY to an Endodontist. Well Steve had the appointment for a root canal. Of course I had to go for moral support. The really funny part is he kept texting me from the office what was happening. I was sitting in the waiting room. Is this the same man that goes up on that high scaffolding all the time? If they had let me go into the treatment room with him, I would have been right there. Yes, he is nervous!! Root canals are not fun.

Sitting in the waiting room and looking around I notice horses is the theme. The love for horses is deeply ingrained in the culture here in Lexington. It is amazing how every office and every outside park in Lexington is dedicated to horses. Everyone in Lexington is proud for their city to be called Horse Capital of the World and they show it.

The drive to Lexington is filled with horse farms and rolling fenced pastures filled with horses.

Lexington’s population is around 320,154. She is the second most populated city in Kentucky and the wealthiest in Kentucky. Johnny Depp has a horse farm in Lexington and George Clooney was born here. Besides horses this area is known for some of the best bourbon in the country. Lexington was named one of the Top 5 Best Small Cities in the USA by Condé Nast Traveler in 2024. Interesting enough the largest employer is the University of Kentucky. So this is a large college city. The trees are all starting to bloom in Lexington. Really strange since we are farther south and they are ahead of us in Spring weather.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 322 – The Wellington – Day 2 hardwood flooring and celebrating Bobi’s birthday

Year 4, Day 322, “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 3/18/2025. The Wellington – Another long hard day of laying the Hardwood flooring. Bang, bang, bang all day long. Except today I am trying to cook around the hardwood flooring work. I made cheesecake, Arancini, and Meatballs with Raviolli for Bobi’s birthday. Happy Birthday Bobi.

This was a strange day. You will see that I am not in any pictures today. Yup, I was on the deck enjoying the breeze and not being able to move for about a half hour. I never drink a full drink. Today, I decided to down a drink (vodka on the rocks with a splash of cranberry juice). I did this while talking and eating dinner. One shot of vodka and I couldn’t even move. So Justin and Steve came to the rescue and took pictures and put the candles on the cheesecake. It was a good thing I didn’t have that drink till after I cooked dinner. The Arancini was awesome. We always love to order Arancini at Italian restaurants. Steve said they were the best he has ever had. They were baked, not fried.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 320 – The Wellington – Scaffolding in closet, Julianna competition first solo, flooding over the bridge into town, ordered railings

Year 4, Day 320, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 3/16/2025. The Wellington – The scaffolding is all folded up and placed in the coat closet. Isn’t that what you would expect in our coat closet? Actually, we need it one more time to hang the foyer chandelier. Then it gets banned to the garage.

Last night we watched Julianna’s dance solo. This is her first competition where she did a solo. She danced to “Hold onto me”. Julianna picked the music herself that she wanted to dance to. This is the first time anyone even Jenna has seen her dance this solo. We were super excited to see her perform a solo and were not disappointed with her performance. We loved the music, the lyrics, the meaning of the song, the dancing, the choreography, and most especially the dancer. What a sweet loving talented grandchild/teenager Julianna is. This morning I had to watch her again. I am the biggest critic and fan.

The thunder, rain and wind storms here have been ferocious. Last night around 1:30am, our phones rang and beeped. We received a code red alert for flash flooding in our area.

We head out around 10am for breakfast this morning. We realize that last night there was no way we could have driven over the bridge into town. You can see the water was running over the bridge and flooding the roadway last night.

After breakfast we headed to Walmart for a blender to make cheesecake. Then we went to Lowes to look at railing options.

Then we came home and ordered all our railing, banisters, newel posts, balusters, and railing hardware. I try to order most things online because we get American Airline miles doing it that way. Last year we flew round trip to Paris for free by shopping through American Airlines. In the afternoon the living area hardwood floor was started. Throughout the day we also watched Julianna’s competition group dances.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 318 – The Wellington – Living area chandelier hung

Year 4, Day 318, “Living the Dream”. Friday, 3/14/2025. The Wellington – Everything we spackled is now painted. Still some trimming around the ceiling needs to be completed. We spent hours trying to hang a fan in the living area. We had so much trouble trying to mount it to the slope ceiling. As a result, we decided to hang the chandelier we had bought for the foyer instead. Ordered the same chandelier again for the foyer. We must really like this chandelier. It is in the Williamsburg as well.

Another thing we did, was repaint the stairwell to the balcony and the balcony area to match the living area. The Irish Cream just didn’t look the way we wanted it to look. Sometimes things just look good in your head. It’s kind of like how you envision how you look when you video yourself. Then you watch that video. No, I don’t look and act like that do I? Yes you do lady – Haha

On this day remember how incredible you are. Today is day twelve of sanding, spackling, and mask wearing. This is the final sanding on the third coat of spackle. Then we are on to painting. Steve runs the power sander and then finishes corners and edges with hand sanding. That power sander is like fighting a bull. I hear him in the foyer repeating to himself “GIT HER DONE”.

The air is constantly filled with spackle dust. Even though the bag on the power sander catches most of the sanding droppings. By the end of the day we are mostly cleaned up and ready for paint.

It also comes in larger sizes (6, 8, and 10 feet).

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 310 – The Wellington – Second day no power, lots of sanding and spending time in the master bedroom

Year 4, Day 310, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 3/06/2025. The Wellington – Second day of no power. Yesterday there were 4,000 households out in Pulaski County. Today that number is down to 244.

It is 30 degrees and cloudy. Our large generator runs on propane or gasoline. We have only used propane tanks with it before today. This morning we changed to gasoline. The propane cylinders keep freezing up and the generator turns off fairly quickly. Due to it being cold we can’t get them to unfreeze. We have four cylinders sitting outside unusable until the weather warms up or the sun comes out.

We prefer to use propane as it is cleaner. Although gasoline is more robust giving us more power. Gasoline goes bad in the generator, clogs up the carburetor, and creates more work to maintain. The generator is plugged into the house and runs most items, but not the heat. It does run the garage door openers though.

We have three heaters running. However, due to the size of the house, the temperature is cooler. It ranges from the 50’s to 60’s depending on the room. Comfortable enough with a sweatshirt and hood.

Miss Piggy is working away this morning. So call me paranoid but she hangs where ever I am. If I go into the bathroom she follows me in. If I go into the shower she is cleaning right there. I have to actually put her outside the bathroom door and close it. I kind of freak out with her watching me on the toilet or taking a shower. Should I be??? Hmmm She is a worker and really keeps our hardwood floors shiny and clean.

Steve is sanding away and wants me to limit the time in the living area due to the extreme dust. The sanding of the third coat is the most intense.

Should be mostly ready for paint by tomorrow. This is day number ten of sanding and spackling. At 11am we started singing and dancing. “Woohoo the power is on! It’s a happy day.” Off grid living is not for us. Decided my plants needed to breath. So I gave them a nice warm water wash.

Things to ponder today! Have to leave you thinking.

These are the sturdiest little hooks and look fantastic. Watch and see where they will be appearing next in this house. Great for hanging coats, hats, towels, cups, bags, etc. The list is endless – Use your imagination.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 309 – The Wellington – Day ten spackling and sanding, winds and the trampoline

Year 4, Day 309, “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 3/05/2025. The Wellington – The wind was ferocious last night. The neighbors trampoline with the safety fencing on top flew over his house. It crossed the road, went over the farmers fence, and ended up in the trees across that field. We estimate it traveled 700 feet.

We also lost our power. Good thing we are used to off grid living. But the temperature is going down to 30 this evening through tomorrow. Okay so now it is cold off grid living. Crazy crazy Kentucky weather. Spackling and sanding continues. This is day number ten. Still looking at a small house for the far corner of the property.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 307 – The Wellington – Second coat spackling almost completed, Newcomers meeting, restaurant fall

Year 4, Day 307, “Living the Dream”. Monday, 3/03/2025. The Wellington – Steve worked on sanding and spackling. The second coat is basically done. Me, I decide to break out of this work mode and head to the Somerset Newcomers club Monthly meeting. It was a combination meeting of the Newcomers and the Alumni Newcomers. What a lovely, lovely group of women. I have to say it again. What a lovely, lovely group of women. These are the sweetest most accepting women I have every met. If you are new to the area or just live in the area, this group is for you. There are constant activities from game playing, hiking, dining, shows, concerts, etc. Don’t be home and lonely wondering what can I do. Join the Somerset Newcomers group. These ladies really care about and support each other. Contact them at somersetkynewcomers@gmail.com

Okay, back to my story. I haven’t attended one of these meeting in awhile due to working on the house and being away. I was a little nervous going and basically forced myself to attend. As soon as I walked through the door I felt I belonged. How great is that. This monthly meeting was held at the new larger location of The Serendipity at the Orange Door in Somerset. The food was good. Service was a little slow. But the restaurant was pretty full. We were in a separate room. So like I said I was a little nervous about going so I had to psyche myself up. So I walked in like hey I look good, I feel good, and I belong. Halfway through the restaurant I slipped on something and fell on the floor. Now how embarrassing is that. Yup people running over to help the old lady up. That’s me the old lady on the ground. So I guess the moral of this story is when someone becomes overly proud or arrogant. They start believing themselves to be great. God will then often intervene to humble them, showing them their true limitations. Yes he certainly did. So now my foot and ankle is a bit sore and swollen, but I learned my lesson.
