Living the Dream Year 4 Day 310 – The Wellington – Second day no power, lots of sanding and spending time in the master bedroom

Year 4, Day 310, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 3/06/2025. The Wellington – Second day of no power. Yesterday there were 4,000 households out in Pulaski County. Today that number is down to 244.

It is 30 degrees and cloudy. Our large generator runs on propane or gasoline. We have only used propane tanks with it before today. This morning we changed to gasoline. The propane cylinders keep freezing up and the generator turns off fairly quickly. Due to it being cold we can’t get them to unfreeze. We have four cylinders sitting outside unusable until the weather warms up or the sun comes out.

We prefer to use propane as it is cleaner. Although gasoline is more robust giving us more power. Gasoline goes bad in the generator, clogs up the carburetor, and creates more work to maintain. The generator is plugged into the house and runs most items, but not the heat. It does run the garage door openers though.

We have three heaters running. However, due to the size of the house, the temperature is cooler. It ranges from the 50’s to 60’s depending on the room. Comfortable enough with a sweatshirt and hood.

Miss Piggy is working away this morning. So call me paranoid but she hangs where ever I am. If I go into the bathroom she follows me in. If I go into the shower she is cleaning right there. I have to actually put her outside the bathroom door and close it. I kind of freak out with her watching me on the toilet or taking a shower. Should I be??? Hmmm She is a worker and really keeps our hardwood floors shiny and clean.

Steve is sanding away and wants me to limit the time in the living area due to the extreme dust. The sanding of the third coat is the most intense.

Should be mostly ready for paint by tomorrow. This is day number ten of sanding and spackling. At 11am we started singing and dancing. “Woohoo the power is on! It’s a happy day.” Off grid living is not for us. Decided my plants needed to breath. So I gave them a nice warm water wash.

Things to ponder today! Have to leave you thinking.

Here’s a link to today’s Amazon recommendation: https://amzn.to/4hQIPgd 12 Black Wall Hooks: I just put a few of these up in my master bedroom closet. The perfect solution for hanging up belts. These are the sturdiest little hooks and look fantastic. Watch and see where they will be appearing next in this house. Great for hanging coats, hats, towels, cups, bags, etc. The list is endless – Use your imagination.
