Year 3 Day 261 – “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 1/18/2024. Day 7 of 12-day winter 2024 vacation. Day 5 of 7-night Western Caribbean cruise on Harmony of the Seas. We are in Costa Maya, Mexico today.
The Carnival Pride is docked with us. It is 10 degrees Fahrenheit and there is snow on the ground at home and 80 here.
I have always found Costa Maya just way to hot and humid. I am drenched with sweat at 8am just standing five minutes looking at the port.
We rented a golf cart and drove down to the fishing village Mayahual and the beach. It was so much nicer away from the Port. I am not sure how long I would have been able to take the humidity at the port. This is the company we rented from https://costa-maya-golf-cars.business.site/… I rented online through face book. They just take your reservation. There is no money up front. It was a great day. I would highly recommend doing this. We drove to the town of Mayahual.
There is a lot of construction going on. Everything is done by hand. Give this town another five to ten years and it will be a very expensive resort area. Currently it still has a lot of the original inhabitants living there and trying to make a living off of the tourists. There are very few people that actually making any of the souvenirs anymore. Most items are bought in mass quantities and sold by the local businesses. We found a man that made everything out of coconut shells. He is still living in his original small home. On both sides of his home, they are building condos/timeshares.
We drove back to the port along the beachy touristy area. The beach side was loaded with massage tables. We must have been asked at least 50 times if we wanted a massage. So, Costa Maya is hot, humid, way too crowded at the port and Mayahual is the town of one long massage table.
