Day 174 – Thursday, October 21, 2021. Last night the farmer worked late into the night driving his combine with headlights through the fields cutting the soybean plants and collecting the soybeans. I guess when it is time to harvest you have to get it done before it rains and gets wet. To cut the soybeans, a reel pushes the plants into the combine as it moves forward very slowly. The combine cuts off the plants at ground level, then removes the soybeans from their pods and deposits them into the grain tank. Very interesting and cool to watch. We are headed for a short vacation or long weekend up to PA. We had a gorgeous day driving to WV where we are spending the night. Looks as though we are driving into some fall foliage. Hope the colors are good now in PA.

We are doing Hershey in the dark tomorrow night, then watching some soccer games over the weekend, and then ending with a town Halloween parade the grandkids are in. Busy weekend. We also are bringing some items back from storage that we need. Most important is the tile saw and some warmer clothing. Gas prices have increased since we left KY. Regular was $2.99 a gallon when we left and is $3.29 here in WV. We had a really funny thing happen at the hotel. We had a luggage cart. Steve put a suitcase and cooler on the cart. He turned to help me with something and turns around and says “did you take the cart? Where did the cart go?”. He starts running around looking. Our hotel is on a hill. He found it on the other side of the parking lot against the curb. We never heard it roll away and had a hard time finding it as it was hidden by vehicles. It rolled about 150 feet. It was hysterical and I can’t believe it never hit any of the parked cars.
