Living the Dream Day 145

Wednesday, September 22, 2021 – Went to Lowes after dinner last night. Bought a Bosch portable table saw, recessed lighting housings,

oak stair treads, and wood to build the stringers and risers.

We got home late. It was after dark,

and we had to unload the truck due to coming rain.

We bought the oak stair treads, and they cannot get wet. We were exhausted after the long day but climbed into the most comfortable bed. Awe, what a good night of sleep. It was pouring and dark here this morning at 7:30. We headed to the county tax office to show our licenses. It was closed due to covid. I just spoke with them yesterday and they were open. Apparently, somebody tested positive last night I was told. It was rainy most of the day, windy and a lot cooler. It cleared up for a while in the afternoon.

Lowes brought our dishwasher, toilets, sinks, and shower doors.

The bathroom cabinet for downstairs was damaged and we refused delivery. Hey, they already got me on window screens and type S cement. The subcontractor delivery men said they told Lowes when they picked up that the cabinet was damaged, and they did not want to deliver it. Lowes told them take it and let the customer decide.

Steve is working on building the stairs and finalizing the design. There are three different staircases in the home and two outside the home. Lots of stairs will keep us healthy. The area where carpenters have problems in building stairs is figuring out how to build the stringers. That is calculating where each tread should be. Lots of carpenters will not build staircases. Staircase building is a specialized trade. Steve bought this Stair template tool from amazon.

Every piece of wood gets sanded very carefully.

This is the beginning of the staircase from the middle level to the upper level. You build the stringers first. The stringers are the pieces of wood that run diagonally on the side of the stairs and hold them up. The right stringer here is now attached to the upper-level floor and the middle level floor.

Steve loves his new saw. It is so easy to fold up and move around. It is easy to use and cuts really nicely.

We are thinking pretty soon we can set a table up inside. Maybe even eat in there. That is the plan for after the stairs are built, and the place is cleaned up again. It will be nice to spend my time in the new construction and not in the old house.

Today’s product recommendations are for building stairs: 1) The BOSCH table saw is easy to use, move and folds up so nice. What a great buy, and 2) Don’t forget you need some masks for protecting yourself from breathing in sawdust. Steve likes the Honeywell ones. You can breathe and work in them, but they protect your lungs. Here’s the links to these products:
