Living the Dream Year 5 Day 59 – The Wellington – Back yard seeded over septic, General Lee jump

Year 5, Day 59, “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 6/28/2025. The Wellington – Another hot day outside. By the end of the day, the back yard is leveled and seeded. Most of the seeded area has hay on top. We are not sure if the seed will grow or not. It is way too hot and dry now. We figure in September we will spend more time trying to get a lawn to grow. Next up is laying the pavers to the front walk, painting the front door and staining the front door deck. Going to be a long hard week ahead.

The General Lee fountain jumping took place this evening in Somerset. 35,000 people attended. We watched the Facebook videos.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 57 – The Wellington – All hardwood flooring down, I was trained

Year 5, Day 57, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 6/26/2025. The Wellington – I was late for exercise class this morning and learned a new phrase. When I walked in and said I was late because of a train. They said here when you are late because of a train crossing. You say ” I was trained”. Pretty funny. I do want to say the train that trained me had mostly empty Double Stack cars. Is this due to Decreased Import Volumes? I have read that rail traffic has seen intermodal declines coinciding with lower import volumes and slowing port activity.

The big event in our building is that the hardwood floors all done.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 56 – The Wellington – Balcony Hardwood flooring completed

Year 5, Day 56, “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 6/25/2025. The Wellington – Balcony hardwood floor is down.

The only hardwood flooring left to do is the pantry and the balcony stairway landing.

The only other floor work left is the foyer needs to be tiled. Also the lower level bedroom and hallway need vinyl planks put down. In the afternoon I decided I needed more plants. So funny since we are being over run by them now. Hey it is an experiment to see if I can get baby snake plants, also known as Sansevieria to grow. I cut a long leaf into sections. I am letting them callous over for a few days. Then I will place the cuttings in water.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 54 – The Wellington – Bedroom and office ready to decorate, drunk fly

Year 5, Day 54, “Living the Dream”. Monday, 6/23/2025. The Wellington – It is a hot hot day here. The main level bedroom on the left side of the house and the office are completed. We will be putting some extra shelving in the closets and setting them up in the next few days.

The upper balcony is really hot to work on. We run the construction site fan in the living area and point it towards the balcony. This action pulls the heat down, where it is cooled. In a few seconds, it is cool in the balcony area. First thing tomorrow morning we will be laying the Hardwood floor down in that area.

In the afternoon we sat under the balcony umbrella and had a drink. I spilled a little vodka and OMG a fly would not leave it alone. I think he was drunk and couldn’t fly.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 53 – The Wellington – Smart mouse, super hot day

Year 5, Day 53, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 6/22/2025. The Wellington – We have a very smart mouse in the house. After a few nights of mouse traps with the mouse running around them. We decided to get sticky pads. Watch the mouse run up to the pad and turn around when he sees the sticky pad. This morning we took away the traps. Let’s see what happens later. He/she is very active at dusk and dawn.

It has been a really really hot hot hot day.

At 5pm it is 104.2 in the shade on the balcony

115.7 in the sun on the balcony

116.8 in the attic.

So happy we have central air. Steve and Justin did a great job on it. Last year we were living here without air conditioning. https://deestimes.com/…/living-the-dream-year-4-day-53…/

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 52 – The Wellington – Interior trimming, front door wreath

Year 5, Day 52, “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 6/21/2025. The Wellington – Steve amazes me with the precise baseboard cuts he makes. He continued with the interior trimming of the left hand side of the house.

Creating a one of a kind front door decoration was my task. We still have to paint the front door black.

The ride home from PA on Sunday was very long and boring. In my boredom I was playing on my phone and placed an order with Shein for mystery boxes. I received the order today. Hmm not sure if these products are safe to use or not. I never heard of the brand Urose. There is Coconut + Mint Oil whitening mouthwash and Tighten & LiftNeck cream in that brand. Then there is Kormesic brand Caviar Sleeping eye masks, Watermelon serum, and stretch marks and scar oil. Call me paranoid, but I think they are headed for the garbage. I have the thought to see what they do for the dry ends of my hair maybe. If anyone has any insight on these products let me know.

Another thing we are considering is another covid vaccine. We will be traveling a lot this summer on crowded ships, SeaWorld, and Disney world. Anyone get one this year? Our last covid vaccine was 11/2/2023.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 51 – The Wellington – Finishing bedroom closets

Year 5, Day 51, “Living the Dream”. Friday, 6/20/2025. The Wellington – Happy First Day of Summer. Today is the longest day of the year. It is a warm sunny day. Sunshine is the best medicine. What kinds of summer memories spark your nostalgia? Mine is bike riding. I loved hanging out on the porch drinking Kool-Aid and eating ice pops. Eating fresh NJ tomato sandwiches and fresh corn was a delight. I enjoyed catching fireflies and going to the drive-in. Visiting Bertrand Island was fun. The best part of the summer was the farm and horse show in Branchville, NJ. Took Koral out for lunch. She is doing really well in her recuperation. We now have two closets (master bedroom closet and hallway closet near master bedroom) and the laundry center totally finished. We are getting there.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 50 – The Wellington – 2.5 inches of rain

Year 5, Day 50, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 6/19/2025. The Wellington – 2.5 inches of rain last night. You know we really needed it. OMG no we did not. Again our driveway is washing out. We have been trying to divert all the water and have it stay on the lawn. It is not working yet. We may have to just pave that driveway. Will have to get a price soon! Year 5, Day 48, “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 6/17/2025. The Wellington – We are almost cleaned up and organized after being away. Yard and field is mowed, weed whacking completed, and plants have had some tender care.

Decided to get myself cleaned up a little also.

Tomorrow is back to work day. How much can we get done before we go away again? We will finish this house? Look at the Williamsburg standing tall.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 47 – The Wellington – Monday Monday back home cleaning up

Year 5, Day 47, “Living the Dream”. Monday, 6/16/2025. The Wellington – Monday, Monday. Isn’t coming back home always hard. The laundry, the unpacking, the food shopping, the grass mowing, and the car cleaning. Most of our grass is Southern crabgrass. We need to get rid of that and plant some real grass.

It was a busy busy day. It rained over 7 inches in thirteen days while we were away. That is enough rain on our property to keep us in water for twenty-six years. We could keep it if we could store it somehow. We did the calculations to determine the number of years.

It was a hot sunny 90 degrees in the afternoon. Look at this the boys are at NASA space camp having an experience of a lifetime.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 46 – The Wellington – Happy Fathers day, PA to KY drive

Year 5, Day 46, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 6/15/2025. The Wellington – Happy Fathers day everyone. We were up and on the road again at 3:45am. We tried to not wake anyone, but Jenna and the puppies heard us. We were not quiet enough. It was sad leaving. We had such a nice time visiting family and friends for thirteen days. This was a very unusual trip for us. Most of our trips over a few days are cruises. The morning drive from PA through MD was rainy and foggy. Visibility was poor until about 10 am.

Then the rain stopped and the sun came out in West Virginia. By 12:30pm it is 83 degrees Fahrenheit and I am regretting wearing jeans. Jenna and Julianna are having a good day – Starbucks and shopping

2,600 miles on the Equinox in 13 days. At 6pm we are back home. Came home to a dead frog in our house. Now how did he get in here? Very strange!!

Year 5, Day 45, “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 6/14/2025. The Wellington – Flag football

Puppy time

Sink work

And then two recital shows(5 hours). Long tiring day and I didn’t dance for 13 numbers plus the grand finale. Sitting and watching is HARD though but totally worth it. Loved every minute of this day. Awesome kids!! Julianna’s dedication and commitment to dance is commendable. She puts long hours with lots of hard work into dance.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 43 – The Wellington – Lost River Caverns Hellertown, PA, Koral home recuperating

Year 5, Day 43, “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 6/12/2025. The Wellington – We had a fun time at Lost River Caverns in Hellertown, PA today. Jenna, Julianna, Jacob, and Joshua joined us. Jamie had to work. We booked and paid for the 45 minute guided walking tour of this natural limestone cavern online. This area was an old operating limestone quarry. In 1883 the quarry workers opened the cave entrance while blasting. In 1930 the cave had handrails, lighting and walkways installed and was opened to the public. The cave entrance is located in the small museum. The cave exit is of course is through the gift shop.

Year 5, Day 42, “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 6/11/2025. The Wellington – Rockaway, NJ to Tannersville, PA outlets. We walked through the outlet stores. Although, we actually had more fun watching the little birds.

Then it was on to Green Lane, PA for Julianna’s moving up family celebration.

I have avoided mentioning that Koral was in a accident last weekend. After being stabilized in one hospital she was sent to a trauma center. There she was stabilized and moved to an ER room. She was in the ER and released to a pediatric room for a day. But last night she was put into ICU. It is very scary!!

Year 5, Day 41, “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 6/10/2025. The Wellington – Rockaway, NJ day. Rockaway Hilton Garden Inn Breakfast.

Then met up with Ann for lunch at the Barn Kitchen and Bar on Green Pond Road. I was so excited to visit that I forgot to take pictures of us. Look they had Dolores Tacos on the menu. There was also a really nice outside seating area with a pup menu.

Later in the day we walked the mall. So funny we can remember the Rockaway mall being built. WE ARE OLD!!!

Another good future design.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 40 – The Wellington – Nashua National Fish Hatchery and back to Rockaway, NJ

Year 5, Day 40, “Living the Dream”. Monday, 6/9/2025. The Wellington – This morning we visited The Nashua National Fish Hatchery. This hatchery is one of the oldest national fish hatcheries still operating today. It was established in 1898. Programs at the hatchery support Atlantic salmon and landlocked salmon. They also support American shad and other aquatic species restoration efforts in many New England water bodies. They opened at 8am, but the place was empty and the water runways had no water. We walked around outside the Hatchery for a short time.

Then we dropped Mary off at her home and drove back to Rockaway, New Jersey.

This trip we have been in ten states (KY, WV, MD, PA, NJ, NY, VT, NH, MA, and CT). This is a nice little design. How about we build four of these on the back 40.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 39 – The Wellington – Isles of Shoals tour and Star Island

Year 5, Day 39, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 6/8/2025. The Wellington – Stayed in Nashua, New Hampshire last night and headed to Rye, New Hampshire after breakfast. Rye, New Hampshire is located on the Atlantic Ocean in Rockingham County. It has eight miles of coast line which is the longest in NH. New Hampshire has 17 miles of coastline. Two thirds of the town’s 35.5 square miles is water. Rye was the site of the first settlement in New Hampshire in 1623. We are taking a boat tour on Uncle Oscar called Isles Tour & Star Island Walkabout. The trip to Rye was rural and beautiful with huge homes with huge Rhododendrons in their yards. In Rye we are an hour away from Boston and 5 1/2 miles from the Isles of Shoals. Rye is mainly a residential town.

Our day consists of a narrated tour of this group of nine islands. These nine islands lay six miles southeast of the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor, five of the nine islands are in Maine (Duck, Appledore, Smuttynose, Malaga, and Cedar) and four are in New Hampshire (Star, Lunging, White, and Seaveys). It is a natural habitat for many species of marine life and has a remarkable history. Star, Cedar, Smuttynose and Malaga are situated such that they create a small harbor, known as Gosport Harbor.

We docked at Star Island for an island walking tour of Gosport. Star Island is owned and operated by the nonprofit Star Island Corporation and is currently a conference center. It is also home to a marine biology center operated by Cornell University. From 1623 until 1872, Star Island supported fishermen and their families. In the 1600s, the island was the busiest fishing port on the East coast. Oceanic House was built on Star Island in 1872. It advertised as “an ideal summer resort of the highest class and full of historic associations. Preeminently the place for the tired worker. No noise, no dust, no trolleys.” It was a beautiful gorgeous day. The flowers, the views, the sea air, and the boat ride were restoring. We could not get the full experience as the dining hall was not open yet. This weekend was the first weekend that the boat tours out to the island started for the 2025 season. The official season runs mid June through mid September. I am set to come again, but for now this was perfect.

The island has the John Smith Monument which is the tallest gravestone in New Hampshire

Star Island’s sustainability program is intense. Toilets are flushed with salt water. Rainwater is collected in a cistern for filtration to use as drinking water in taps, showers, and laundry. A solar array delivers up to 60% of Star Island’s energy needs. When the back-up diesel generator is used, “waste heat” is reclaimed to heat water for several uses. Used glass bottles are crushed and used for sand/gravel fill. Cardboard and paper are shredded and used for compost and chicken bedding. Food waste is composted and used to process and provide food.

The Isle of Shoals lighthouse is located on White Island. We could see the light house from Star Island. White Island is the southernmost of the Isles of Shoals. The current lighthouse is actually the 2nd built on site in 1859. The first light house was built in 1820. The Coast Guard currently operates the light house. Before the Coast Guard took it over it was operated by family. White island is not open to the public.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 38 – The Wellington – Rockaway, NJ to Nashua, NH via VT, 43 states down, sibling get together

Year 5, Day 38, “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 6/7/2025. The Wellington – After breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rockaway, NJ we picked up my brother Manuel. It was a rainy foggy long 206 mile drive to Wilmington, Vermont located in southern Vermont from Rockaway, New Jersey. We passed through the historical downtown area of Wilmington.

On our way to Wilmington, Vermont we drove along the Hudson River and through Troy, New York.

For a while before we entered Vermont we had no telephone service. Where have we taken ourselves? From that point on, the road climbed to a very high elevation. There were lots of trees and no cell phone service. Everything is very green here. There are a lot of small motels and signs for cross country skiing. My ears popped a few times adjusting to the elevation of 2,400 feet in Woodford State Park. We currently live in Kentucky at 1,300 feet. Woodford State Park is 398 acres and has the highest elevation campground of any park in Vermont. Woodford is located on a mountain plateau surrounding Adams reservoir. High Point State Park in New Jersey where we lived near has an elevation of 1803 feet. We passed a few covered bridges that were blocked off before we headed onto Interstate 91 at Brattleboro, Vermont. Vermont has about 100 covered bridges. There used to be about 500. Pennsylvania has the most covered bridges out of all states with about 200. Covered bridges were built to protect their wooden trusses and decks from the elements in harsh weather areas. These coverings extended the lifespan of a bridge from around 20 years to 100 years. Covered bridges were usually painted red to make them look similar to a barn. Horses were less likely to be spooked by entering them then.

In Brattleboro, Vermont we changed direction and started heading to Nashua, New Hampshire to visit my sister Mary. The detour through Vermont was to add another state to our list of visited states. Now we can say we have been in 43 states. Seven more to go!! The main purpose of the trip is actually to get together with my brother and sister. It has been a few years since the three of us have been together.

Dinner at the Lost Cowboy. They had the longest bar I have ever seen.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 37 – The Wellington – Dingmans Bridge, visiting with friends in Wantage

Year 5, Day 37, “Living the Dream”. Friday, 6/6/2025. The Wellington – Memories of PA into NJ over the Dingman’s bridge to Wantage.

Then lunch with friends. Of course no pictures boohoo. Have to describe us. Brenda is sweet, happy, energetic, loving, great friend, thin, looks younger everyday, and fun to be around. David is kind, sweet, gentle, easy to get along with, and a great craftsman. Lunch was wonderful, but mostly it was seeing old friends that made the day. We also had a demonstration of 2P-10 activator done by David. Very cool product.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 32 – The Wellington – Laundry center broom hanger, phone swiss army knife of technology

Year 5, Day 32, “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 6/1/2025. The Wellington – Broom mop wall hanger is hung in laundry center.

It is amazing how much control our phone has in our lives. You can open and close your garage doors. You can see and talk to people at your home. You can start your dishwasher and turn your home lights on and off. You can read your mail. You can access anything on your laptop. You can talk to people, video with people, and message people to connect instantly with them. You can order all kinds of items from multiple stores and restaurants and track those orders. You can get directions to anywhere and share locations with others. You can use it as an alarm clock, take pictures and videos, and play games alone or with others. You can use it as a calculator or even as a mirror. You can translate different languages, read books, and watch movies. You can keep up to date with current events. You can control floor cleaning in the house. You can use it as a dictionary and encyclopedia. You can listen to music and control your shopping list. You can keep track of appointments and receive notifications about them. You can control your home temperature. You can take a picture of anything and use that picture to get information about it. You can also store pictures and videos like a photo album. You can receive emergency alerts, use it as a timer, and use it as a flashlight. You can store addresses and phone numbers, test batteries in remote controls, and use it as a magnifier. You can get weather reports and store recipes. This list goes on and on. Now you understand why people are ALWAYS ON THEIR PHONE!!! IT is the Swiss army knife of technology.
