Year 5, Day 160 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 10/07/2025 – Day 1 of 30 day trip to Rome, Italy with a Mediterranean cruise and a transatlantic cruise back to Bayonne, NJ. Today we are flying to Rome. We started in the Blue Grass International Airport in Lexington, KY.
At 3pm we watched our plane land. Yup the eagle has landed. The American eagle that is.
We boarded an American airlines CRJ700 in the pouring rain. We were immediately told due to expected turbulence we had to keep our seatbelts on the whole trip to Charlotte. NC. Charlotte is where we will be picking up our flight from the United States to Rome, Italy.
The flight attendants had to keep seated with their seat belts on also. I REALLY DON’T LIKE FLYING. I say this with a pounding heart. And we are up. We will be flying at an altitude of 27,000 feet for about 52 minutes. Our flight is like 352 nautical miles. We climbed really really fast. I think the pilot wanted to get up above the storm clouds. I hate this. I know you guys are laughing as you read this. Well I am not. In a few minutes it is pure white outside our window. Hear my heart pounding. I bet you all felt it my whole flight.
After we gained our altitude, we were over the clouds. The sky was very clear and blue for a short time. Then back to those clouds. I am still a nervous Dolores. We still have the flight from Charlotte to Rome ahead of us. The plane is very quiet. I wonder if the other passengers are content or if their hearts are pounding like mine? I cant even believe I like to travel so much. Every trip we make i really don’t want to go and then I don’t want to come home. Now I know why we book long trips.
It ended up the trip was smooth and we landed in Charlotte to a sunny nice day. Lots of construction going on.
Our plane was heading to its little corral spot to meet up with her family.
We walked 20 minutes from the E concourse to the A concourse. We grabbed a bottle of water and boarded right away. These seats are small. We will be on her in flight for 8 hours and 45 minutes and travel 4,975 miles.
The temperature is cold in this plane. I think we have a long cold flight ahead of us.
At 7:30pm dinner is being served. Chicken or Pasta? We had one of each. The chicken was super spicy.
After dinner, it was time to sleep at an altitude of 37,000 feet. We will be walking around Rome in less than 7 hours. Not that many of you will be up at 4am.
