Year 3 Day 2 – “Living the Dream”. Monday, 5/01/2023. Day 17 (Huatulco, Mexico) of 21-night Radiance of the Seas Galveston TX to Los Angeles, CA cruise. Land, Land, Land. I see LAND!

I can’t wait to go walking off this ship. This ship is very very boring. I like the larger ships now. Lots to do. Today we are in Huatulco, Mexico. Huatulco is a planned resort city located on the southern Pacific coast of Mexico, where the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains meet the ocean in the state of Oaxaca. Huatulco is eco-friendly and received the International EarthCheck Platinum Award. All electric is generated by wind. Here are some facts about Huatulco. It is one of the cleanest, safest cities in Mexico. It has an average annual air & water temp of 28°C/80°F. It has its own international airport 15 minutes away. It is known for its nine bays and 36 beaches. At least I read that. I had never heard of it prior to this trip. It has excellent infrastructure . . . from roads to health care to high-speed fiber connectivity. This is the first and only destination in the Americas to receive this prestigious honor It is a lovely sunny morning as we pull into this rocky, hilly port. The rocky hills are covered with dried scraggly looking trees. There are many buildings that are still just shells after the 7.4 Earthquake that hit this area in June 2020. There looks like there is a resort situated in one of the coves.

This is a tiny little harbor with lots of little boats anchored around us. The air is filled with a pungent smell of burning wood. I find I don’t want to take deep breaths through my nose. It kind of burns. We are at the dock around 7:30am.

Two ambulances show up and we are in a holding pattern while they load up. There are two families that need your prayers today. Hard to be sick or hurt at home but imagine being on a cruise while at sea. Then to having to go to a foreign country’s hospital.

At 11am the Norwegian Sun pulls up alongside of us. I actually thought that this port was small, and we were going to be the only ship in Port.

It is hotter here than when we cruised through the Panama Canal. Our ship the Radiance of the Seas is headed to Alaska after it drops us off in Los Angeles. Steve and I were reading these statistics today about Los Angeles area earthquakes: 1 earthquake in the past 24 hours, 6 earthquakes in the past 7 days, 25 earthquakes in the past 30 days, and 307 earthquakes in the past 365 days. Should we be worried? We walked around and explored more of the ship in the morning. The views in and around this port are gorgeous.

Then we got off and walked around the port a little bit.

The shops have lots of skilled craft work. Prices are pretty high.

The vegetation is very lush and green, with flowers everywhere you look. And cute little birdies too.

There was a nice ocean side restaurant.

We walked through the local small grocery store

and out the back door to the dock area. Most people here use small motorcycles for transportation.

There were many small watercraft parked.

Alongside of our ship the MONTE ALBAN PC 338 was parked. This ship is a 42-meter-long high-speed watercraft. This is a Tenochtitlan-class patrol vessel. It is also known as a Mexican Navy 42-meter patrol vessel. I read that this ship is equipped with machine guns, but I didn’t see any.

We were back on the ship for a late lunch.

Today’s product recommendations are for keeping your skin looking its best at sea and in the sun. My favorite skin care products are made by Elemis. Although I do sometimes try a new product here and there. I actually find myself going back to Elemis. 1) I start my morning in the shower with a face wash. Currently I am using ELEMIS Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash https://amzn.to/3qZkwqC 2) After showering I am currently using ELEMIS Superfood Facial Oil https://amzn.to/3XvfUVu 3) Then the Elemis Pro-Collagen Maine Cream with spf30 gets applied. It is the best. It costs a little more than the drug store creams but wow it works. Whenever I decide I want to buy another less expensive brand I am sorry and head right back to this cream. https://amzn.to/46sJZsH 4) Steve also uses an Elemis product. He tends to break out when he uses sunscreen often. He finds the ELEMIS Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads excellent to use. It cleans that sunscreen out of his pores. When he uses these pads to cleanse his face he does not break out. https://amzn.to/3px1oQn
