Living the Dream – Year 2, Day 186, Sydney, Australia

Year 2 – Day 186, Monday, October 31, 2022. Day 43 of our 1/2 world trip. Researching I read that Sydney contains one fifth of Australia’s population and has a very diverse population. The demographics are 35% English, 16.8% Australian, and 16.8% Chinese. We walked around the area around our hotel in the late afternoon and saw many homeless. Most have a dog, cat, or rabbit on a leash. So sad. On every street corner there is someone playing music. The area is loaded with high end malls. This morning we got on the lite rail

and went back to Circular Quay.

We then walked over the Sydney Harbor Bridge. There is a Princess Cruise ship in the harbor today.

We saw lots of police patrolling the area. Look at the sign advising which way to look when crossing the street. I certainly needed that reminder. We walked up to the Bridge Stairs

and did the free Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk. We walked over the bridge on the road level pedestrian walkway. On this walk you are walking right next to a seven-lane highway. There are bridge climbing options, but they aren’t free. People here even walk on the wrong side of a walkway. Lol It was a great day for this walk. The bridge is nicknamed “The Coathanger” because of its arch-based design, and it carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic over the Sydney Harbour from the central business district to the North Shore.  It is the eighth longest spanning-arch-bridge in the world and the tallest steel arch bridge.

On the other side we walked up the street a little bit and then turned around and walked back to the water to catch the ferry. There were a few small businesses in a mostly commercial high rise building area. There were a group of nice homes right in the middle. They must be the hold outs. Good for them they are gorgeous pieces of architecture. We took the ferry back over. Tap on tap off I love it.

We then walked down to the Opera house. Along the way we passed a lot of great places to eat and benches to sit and view the harbor.

Steve visited the restroom and couldn’t believe the urinals. So of course he had to take a picture and send it to me.

At the Opera house we walked around a little bit inside and out.

There are one million tiles on the building and a lot of steps. We walked all day, and I ended up with toe blisters. Flip flops tomorrow. We went back to the hotel to freshen up and then walked around in the business district.

Of course, we had to go to McDonalds for some coffee. I love McDonalds coffee.

Then we headed back to the same pizza Restuarant for happy hour.
