Living the Dream – Year 2, Day 184, Sydney, Australia, disembarking Ovation of the Seas

Year 2 – Day 184, Saturday, October 29, 2022. Day 41 of our 1/2 world trip. We are Down Under this morning. https://youtu.be/XfR9iY5y94s. We have traveled 14,902 miles from our home to Sydney, Australia. That means we have traveled more than halfway around the world in miles. The world is 24,901 miles around. We are now 9,358 miles away from home. It was exciting to get to Sydney. We are right up in the harbor next to the city. This is awesome.

You read so much about these things and see it on TV. Wow I am getting to see this live not on TV. I am here. This is a place I really never expected to see. We said goodbye to our room attendant and headed to disembark.

Disembarking was terrible. We were supposed to be off the ship at 9:15am and we did not actually get out on the sidewalk until 1pm. We sat on the floor in the hallway in front of the theatre with a large family who just wanted to get off the ship and be home. They had flown to Honolulu, stayed there a few days and then taken this cruise to get back home.

The city is very crowded and busy. We took an uber to the Sydney Hilton.

We had checked in online in the morning. This hotel is a high rise and Steve said get us a low floor. They recommended room 4313. I thought it was the fourth floor. OMG, we get in the elevator and head to the 4th floor. We get off and realize there are no rooms on the fourth floor. Guess what we are on the 43rd floor.

The top floor. Check out this view. The Sydney Hilton is located on George Street. This street is the street the light rail runs on and that is why you see no traffic outside our room window.

Every time we go up and down the elevator my ears pop. The room is really nice, and it has electronic blinds with little seats in the windows.

The hotel is five stars, and we are Hilton Diamond, so we get to go to the Executive Lounge. More free drinks.

After checking in we went across the street from the hotel and exchanged some US dollars for Australian money. We don’t expect to need much cash. It is so much easier just to use a credit card for purchases whenever possible. We figured there could be occasions that we would not be able to charge.

We then took a walk down the street and gawked like tourists. Pedestrian traffic is heavy.

Later in the evening we visited the Executive Lounge.
