Year 2 – Day 97, Wednesday, August 3, 2022. We are traveling home. I hate to call it home. It is not home. The northeast is still my home. It is actually sad to be going back. Oh well as my sister-in-law used to say it is what it is. We won’t be traveling up north again until Thanksgiving. There was no traffic until we got about 25 minutes from our house. Then the traffic came to a standstill at about 2pm for twenty minutes due to road construction. At least we were able to watch the machinery doing their job. Steve was envious watching the huge machines work. He loves machinery, like a child with Tonka toys. These people were really working hard in the hot sun. There is no one standing around.
We got into Somerset, Kentucky around 3pm and stopped at Kroger. You know Steve is always hit up for money. This time he is in the men’s room at the urinal and an elderly gentleman comes up right beside him with writing on a pad. The pad says I have cancer can you spare some money. OK he gives him some money. As we walk out of the store that same man is feeding twenty-dollar bills into the lottery machine. He did look terrible, but he had a lot of 20″s for the lottery. Our new dumpster was ready to be loaded when we arrived home.
We unloaded the car and Steve says “ok, tomorrow’s job is to load the dumpster”. Then he disappears. In a little while I hear the excavator running and there, he is moving the stuff closer to the dumpster to load. Can’t keep this man down. He drove all day and comes home and works more in the evening.
