Year 2 Day 269 – “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 1/22/2023. Day 1 of 14-night Wonder of the Seas Caribbean Cruise. This morning we are a little disappointed with the breakfast, but not with the lovely views of our ship from the hall window on the 2nd floor. The ships are waiting for their passengers to board.
The breakfast food was not so good and especially if you are staying away from sugar and carbs. Blah! Well at least the employees were very friendly and nice. The last time we were at this hotel (The Country Inn and Suites in Port Canaveral) pre covid the breakfast was fantastic. We have been discussing today about the last two winters in KY. Last year was the most snow they had in years and this year they had the coldest temperatures in fifty years. Did we do that? Here in Cape Canaveral, it is a gorgeous beautiful warm day. We moved our car to the cruise shuttle parking area at the hotel and headed to pick up the shuttle at 11am.
The shuttle to Royal Caribbean’s The Wonder of the Seas only had us and another couple going to it Two other couples were going to the Norwegian Cruise Line ship The Primo. There was another shuttle bus that was full going to the Carnival Magic cruise ship. Most people staying at the Country Inn and Suites were cruising Carnival.
It was a very easy embarkation, basically walked on the ship. No wait at all. The ship is huge and very nice. There are lots and lots of balloons hanging in the Royal Promenade for the midnight drop. A fun midnight event for the first night.
We are on the largest cruise ship in the world.
It holds 7,084 passengers maximum and 2,204 crew members. The lunch in the Windjammer was good. Walking into the venue there are sinks lining both sides of the entrance way. Everyone must wash their hands. Very cool lounge area in the middle of the entrance way hall. Then a really big flag cake at the end of the hallway after the sinks as you enter the food area.
There are a large number of kosher areas, gluten free areas, and a children’s food area that is set lower for children to serve themselves.
Lunch was very organized. We watched the muster safety drill on our telephone and checked in at our muster station in the theater. Really very organized. Our room was ready at 1pm. Huge, nice room.
Video will follow hopefully tomorrow. Our luggage was delivered to our room by 1:30pm. In the afternoon we just walked around the ship. There is always a lot of neat things to look at. A red mustang, a huge dinosaur, and a large silver cowboy hat seems to be some of the signature things for this ship. All of Royal Caribbean ships have some signature pieces of art work in them.
The Oasis class ships are strange. There are so many dead ends where you have to back up and go up or down a floor and then go back to the floor you dead ended on to get to the rest of that floor. We ate dinner in the main dining room with two other couples. The casino was packed in the evening. Looks like there are some great shows to see in the next week.
Weird thing in the compass tonight about animals on the ship and don’t touch them but call an employee. What???
Today’s product recommendation is for the Rev-A-Shelf. I love this for my pots, pans and lids. The one we recently installed is the 21 inches with a spot on the top shelf for the lids.
