Living the Dream – Year 2, Day 11

Wednesday, May 11, 2022. We are at Cozumel, Mexico today. After early coffee in the marketplace buffet

we have breakfast in Central Park Restaurant. This ship makes the best oatmeal.

At least one day of your vacation your balcony will be cleaned. Today is our day. Last night a notice was left that they were cleaning balconys today and for privacy you should keep your drapes closed. Of course we forgot and Steve was caught with his shorts down. The glass on the balcony is so clean, much cleaner than the Indeoendence of the Seas we were just on.

It appears that MSC employees really love working for MSC. They had the best time during the covid shut down. MSC took good care of them and when they were able to go home. They were given door to door transportation to their homes. It appears this family owned business is very loving. Cozumel has two different piers on the western side of the island that cruise ships go into. Today we docked at Punta Lagosta which is in the town of San Miquel.

Approaching the island we see three other cruise ships docked at International Pier which is located three miles south of the town. Their you can take a 45 minute ferry ride to the manland of you want. It is an easy six block walk to the ferry station. The ferry”s run basically every hour. As of today the cost is $10.50 per person each way.

When you get off the ship there are cycle rickshaws waiting to transport you to the end of the dock. They transport people back and forth the length of the pier. They are free, you just give a tip. We walked the pier, but plenty of people were getting the ride. After I got back to the ship, I wished I had done it. Just for the experience.

Walking through this port in Cozumel is exactly like that Disney ride in Epcot where the merchants keep saying hey it is my turn. It is very hard sell situation.

It is a very hot day, but very breezy. If you sit in the sun you are hot. Out of the sun it is cool.

Love this cool kilometer marker post. It puts it in perspective where you are.

I keep learning more and more about this ship. The huge slide is a virtual reality experience. Steve is going to go on it. I talked to people that have come off it and they are really excited and give a thumbs up. Problem is I can’t really get any good conversation with them. The charade game gets old quickly. I am very dumb with charades. The ambulance was here around noon taking someone off the ship. I see the ambulance personnel are really covered up. Every cruise we go on, there seems to be at least one stop where an ambulance takes someone away. Lousy way to have your vacation come to an end. I guess it is worse when a sheet covers the person on the stretcher. And we have seen that a lot also.

The cleaning and maintaining is constant. MSC has the friendliest employees.

MSC has really nice ships,

great employees, but their food is not very good. Maybe it is just different, but there has been a lot of food I could barely eat. And by the way, I eat almost anything. Good breakfasts though. We had a mid afternoon snack. I like the size of the desserts on MSC cruises. They are smaller bite sized. Another thing I noticed the passengers tend to be thinner. Are most Europeans thinner?

In the afternoon we watched boats going by the cruise ship. One had all recyclables on it. Wonder if it picked up from our ship.

We left Cozumel at around 6pm.

We will be traveling 525 miles to our next stop on Friday at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Tomorrow is an at sea day.

Today’s product recommendations are traveling essentials.                                                    1) Luggage hand cart – we love this cart for easy rolling for easy cruise carry-on bags.  Even when you can’t go to your room right away this is so easy to walk around the ship with.  Here’s the link https://amzn.to/3s37EOw

2) This large toiletry bag is the best.  Steve has the black and I have the pink.  We both absolutely love them.  Here’s the link https://amzn.to/3v1p6ok and picture
