Living the Dream Year 4 Day 35 – Clifty Hill 2 – Drywall delivered and boomed into house

Year 4 Day 35 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 6/04/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – The drywall was delivered today. I am all smiles just like these yellow daisies in our yard. Another big step for us in completing this home.

It was boomed into three different floors as we specified and then moved around by four men. Most of the sheets are 12 feet long.

It really amazed me that the drywall was made eleven days ago.

The insulation is being delivered tomorrow. Now we have to walk through walls to get around the house.

Year 4 Day 34 “Living the Dream”. Monday, 6/03/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – We really hate baths. It will be so nice to have the main hall bathroom tiled. At least now I can wash my hair in the temporary kitchen sink. We are making little steps every day.

Year 4 Day 33 “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 6/02/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – First think out for breakfast and then we stopped at Lowes for accent tile for the main bath shower area.

Our afternoon was spent setting up the temporary kitchen with a bar sink. I think I can live with this for a while. The area will be dismantled and resized to fit the family room later on.

Love this little roll around chair. So comfortable to sit on and work.

Year 4 Day 32 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 6/01/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – We spent hours and hours at Lowes today buying stuff to make the house livable while finishing it. We set up a temporary Formica kitchen counter in the afternoon.

They tried to load that trailer with a forklift for I bet an hour. Finally, they realized that it was not going to work, and they needed to open the pallet and load the bags individually.

Year 4 Day 31 “Living the Dream”. Friday, 5/31/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – While we wait for the electrical inspection, we are finishing the deck, and front porch areas.

Surprise, surprise, the electrical inspector showed up and said I see another nice job. We have passed. Steve does have to make one change to the wiring for the recessed lighting in the drop ceiling in the downstairs family room. A new law passed where the wiring must go through the floor joists.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 28 – Clifty Hill 2 – HVAC permit obtained today

Year 4 Day 28 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 5/28/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – We got our hvac permit today. Woohoo!! Things are also moving along with the electric. All the feeds are pulled. We are using 34 spots in a 40-panel breaker box. There are Nine in the kitchen alone and the kitchen is on the opposite end of the house from the panel. That was a lot of holes to drill and wire to pull. So far, we have used 1,000 feet of the 10/2 wire, 2,500 feet of the 14/2 wire, 200 feet of the 8/3 wire, 250 feet of 14/3 wire, 200 feet of 10/3 wire, and we also have wired about 40 recessed lights. A little more wiring and we should be calling for an electrical rough in inspection on Monday. Everyone that comes in the house says, “Hey Steve keeps the work area so clean”. Ah, no he just drills holes and leaves the mess for Dolores the cleaning lady. Cutting cardboard up, and sweeping floors, is a constant job.

Dinner out tonight and we were served by this cute little server.

I read this in the morning and had to pass it on. It just kept resurfacing in my mind all day.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 16 – Clifty Hill 2 – We have off grid internet

Year 4 Day 16 “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 5/16/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – We have internet, and we are off grid. How cool is that?

Walking at Rocky Hollow Recreation Center today, I was able to view the early voting taking place. It was pretty quiet this morning. Lots and lots of workers though. They were prepared.

I love this church. Isn’t she beautiful? This is the Saint Mildred Church Catholic Church in Somerset, Kentucky. Every morning, I pass her after walking and of course on my way to Lowes to pick up stuff. I have this desire to just walk in and I have been away from the Catholic religion for years. But something about this church draws me in. Look at that picture can you feel the pull?

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 15 – Clifty Hill 2 – Port Canaveral announces new cruise terminal, washer and dryer delivered, working wall less bathroom

Year 4 Day 15 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 5/15/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Well is cruising a fad or is it just going to continue growing and GROWING. Port Canaveral is betting that it is growing. They are considered the “Cruise Capital of the World” and just announced they are building another cruise terminal. This new cruise terminal will be completed mid 2026 and will have a facility to accommodate 3,000 vehicles. Currently there are six terminals at this port. For local businesses this is great news. Those cruisers bring in lots of revenue. Started back walking with a friend in Somerset today. The Rocky Hollow Recreational Center was loaded with guns this morning. The sheriff’s departments from all over Kentucky were gathered there for a week’s long training. I am not sure if I felt safer with all those guns there or not. They will be there for the rest of the week’s walking. Our washer and dryer were delivered today.

We also hooked up one bathtub, one toilet, and the hot water heater is completed. We now have a usable wall less bathroom.

We will get the water heater inspection on the final plumbing. We will be running the hot water heater off grid to take baths.

We did have to make two changes. The water line tracer wire had to be tied to the meter and the dirt under the septic pipes had to be dug out and four inches of gravel placed under them. By the end of the day the required changes had been made and the water line and septic pipes are covered.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 12 – Clifty Hill 2 – Great Mother’s Day we are ready to call for a plumbing rough in inspection

Year 4 Day 12 “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 5/12/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Happy, Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers young and old, even those mothers that are no longer with us. They will always be our mothers.

It is a glorious sunny warm day. I am so grateful for my loving husband Steve, our daughter Jenna, her husband Jamie, our son Justin and his wife Bobi and their families. I can’t imagine life without them. I have the best children. Today, I feel loved and appreciated with all the gifts, flowers, food, and companionship. I started my day with an awesome long telephone conversation with Jenna.

Then onto lunch with Justin, Bobi, Reina, and Spencer. Marley and Koral were sleeping the Senior prom off. I think they stayed up all night.

We met up at Ruckel’s Restaurant. I was amazed at this little pay lake fishing restaurants food. The food, weather, lake, and conversation was excellent.

In the afternoon I indulged in a very special decadent treat supplied by Jenna and Jamie – the best Baked by Melissa mini cupcakes.

Okay, we did work in the afternoon. The water and waste lines are all holding pressure., and we are ready to call for an inspection tomorrow. We picked up a new Kohler toilet and ordered a bathroom vanity set.

We are ready to hook up the mid-level family bathroom as soon as we are inspected and approved for the plumbing rough in. We had the final approval on the septic months ago.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 10 – Clifty Hill 2 – Justin finds waterline leaks, mole tunnels/ruts everywhere

Year 4 Day 10 “Living the Dream”. Friday, 5/10/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – “Living the Dream” – Clifty Hill 2. Right before Mother’s Day is not the time to go to a nail salon. Yikes, I got there at 9:28am. They open at 9:30am. There were three people ahead of me. I left the nail salon at 12:45pm. Good thing I like my nails and the nail technician, or I would not be going back. Don’t like the duck shoes though lol.

After leaving the nail salon I stopped and looked at washers and dryers. We are probably not going with white this time. We will be ordering them this weekend after making a final decision between three on display at Lowes.

Okay, back to the home construction. Lots of things happened. Justin came in the afternoon and found the leaks. One was a fitting that did not get soldered. Steve dug the water line trench, connected to the water meter, and turned on the water at the meter. Yes, we have water to the house and the turn off valve in the house does not leak.

We have a horrible mole problem at this house right now. The moles dig their tunnels, then it rains, the tunnels then collapse, and we constantly have new ruts everywhere.

Steve has a bunch of floaters now and feels like he is wanting to swat the bugs flying around all the time. Immediately after the surgery Steve saw clear again, except for the floaters. The floaters are debris from the surgery. The Ophthalmologist says it could be six months before they go away. The younger you are the longer it takes. Steve is young for cataracts. Steve had an early onset cataract and had cataract surgery done on his one eye about 15 years ago. We are thinking this was due to his years of welding. Exposure to infrared light from welding can cause cataracts over time. Exposure to infrared light can heat the lens of the eye and produce cataracts. Last week he had YAG laser capsulotomy. That is a laser surgery that helps you see clearly again after posterior capsule opacification (PCO), which occurs when scar tissue forms behind the lens implant after cataract surgery. PCO causes the posterior capsule, a fine membrane behind the eye’s lens, to become cloudy, resulting in fuzzy vision months or years after cataract surgery.

After this it was back to the house for more plumbing work. At the end of the day, we still have leaks. I think we need the leak detector Justin. Lol.

Things to ponder today! Have to leave you thinking.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 8 – Clifty Hill 2 – All water lines installed but there are leaks, Royal Caribbean gratuity breakdown

Year 4 Day 8 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 5/08/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – First I have to say Happy Birthday to Mary Hill Lind. Mary it is so weird, your birthday is one I always remember. I think about it days before. Well wishes my friend. The copper lines, water heater, and whole house filter are all installed. Tomorrow is “Find the leak day” in those lines. The system has to hold 45 pounds of air for inspection. As of right now there are massive leaks. We apply dish detergent on joints and look for bubbles. Justin did this for the pvc drainage lines. That system was holding the air forever until Steve decided he didn’t like how he put the pipes in one area. He actually thought we probably would fail inspection. So that area is cut out now to fix. The storms and rain have been strong here. It will probably be Friday before we dig the trench to connect to the water meter by the street.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 7 – Clifty Hill 2 – First test battery does not run beverage cooler all night.

Year 4 Day 7 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 5/07/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – The battery was dead this morning after running the beverage refrigerator all night. So, we may be using a cooler for a few months. We bought an RTIC cooler which they say is comparable to yeti but about 1/3 less expensive. Let’s see if that is true. The ice certainly stays frozen. The new quieter generator arrived, and Steve was using it today to charge the batteries and run his power tools. It is not only quieter but using a lot less gas. So now we own three generators.

All the copper water lines are in, and the electric water heater is almost completely installed. The whole house filter will be installed tomorrow, and the overflow drain piped out of the house. Then there is a little of the white pvc drainpipe that needs to be fixed. After that we can dig the trench to the city water meter and attach our house to the city water. Hopefully on Monday we will be calling for a plumbing inspection. Woohoo!!

Every day on our drive to work we pass Disney Lane. I just think that is so cool. Somebody must really love Disney here in Science Hill.

Living the Dream Year 4 Day 6 – Clifty Hill 2 – Kentucky Derby hat, Missing Man Table, batteries and inverter set up

Year 4 Day 6 “Living the Dream”. Monday, 5/06/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – First thing this morning I pulled some stuff together to make a Kentucky Derby hat. The Newcomers club had their monthly lunch today and we celebrated the Kentucky Derby. I won a gift for having the most unique hat. We played Kentucky Derby Bingo also.

In front of the room at the restaurant in honor of Memorial Day there was a missing man table, or it is sometimes called the fallen comrade table. I have never seen this table set up before or heard the meaning of it. A retired military person in the group read this story. Each item on the Missing Man Table represents the emotions and feelings reserved for those who did not come home. The ceremony symbolizes that they are with us, here in spirit. All Americans should never forget the brave men and women who answered our nation’s call to serve and fought for our freedom with honor. The symbolism of the Missing Man Table is:

The table is round, to show our everlasting concern for our missing men.

The cloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve.

The single red rose; displayed in a vase, reminds us of the lives of these Americans and their loved ones and friends who keep the faith while seeking answers.

The red ribbon symbolizes our continued determination to account for our missing.

A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate; captured and missing in a foreign land.

A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families who long for answers after decades of uncertainty.

The lighted candle reflects our hope for their return, alive or dead.

The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain us and those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.

The glass is inverted, symbolizing their inability to share a toast.

The chair is empty, the seat that remains unclaimed at the table.

I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room when she was done. As you go out and about this month you will see this table set up at many businesses. Please take time to reflect on the meaning of this table and thank current, past, and families of our military for their service.

I think it is spring flush out the hydrant’s day in Somerset, KY.

More copper water line work.

The batteries and inverter are set up this evening and we are testing how long they will run some lights, and a small refrigerator. Steve is like a little kid with a new toy.

Anyone for Wedge Salad tonight? Steve’s favorite. This recipe looks great.

This event looks fun!
