Living the Dream Year 5 Day 150 – The Wellington – Trim all nailed up

Year 5, Day 150 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 9/27/2025 – The Wellington. All the wood trim is nailed up except for two closets in the lower level. The crown molding over the kitchen cabinets is also not done. The lower level closets need to be spackled and painted before the trim can be installed. The stairs to the balcony have white paint. In the next few days the treads will be painted black.

A lot has been accomplished this week, but there is still a lot of detail work to be done. It’s all in the Details. These little things are the most important. They will be what’s noticed. Very few people will even look at this house and think about the work involved. This includes the framing, block work, and sheet rock. All the electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and heating in the walls take time and and lots of hard work. Then the effort and talent it takes to design every little detail. I wonder how the next door neighbor’s refurbishment will look when completed.

You will know we are done when the deck and the closets no longer have tools in them. Slowly they are moving out to the garage and shed.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 149 – The Wellington – More trim work, Allianz claim

Year 5, Day 149 “Living the Dream”. Friday, 9/26/2025 – The Wellington. The trim is going up quickly. It is amazing how finished this home is looking. Trim certainly makes a huge difference.

I have to give a shout out to Allianz annual Travel Insurance. We always buy travel insurance for our specific vacations. We purchase it either through the cruise company or through the travel agent if we use one. Note: The only travel agent we ever use to book a cruise is Vacations to Go. Mostly we book our cruises directly through the cruise companies and all other travel arrangements are made by me. We have bought Allianz trip insurance for extending our time in another country. This applies after a cruise or before it. Last March we decided to buy an annual policy through Allianz Travel Insurance. We chose not to purchase the individual trip cruise insurance anymore. We purchased their AllTrips Premier Plan for an annual premium of $485.00. We had heard really good reviews about them from many travelers. Well, we had the chance to use it when MSC canceled a cruise on September 10, 2025. It was scheduled to sail from Barcelona, Spain on 4/22/2026. This cancellation happened due to ongoing geopolitical instability in the Red Sea region. Safe passage through the Red Sea and Suez Canal could not be guaranteed. We had already booked three different airline flights, two cruises, and multiple hotel stays already. I was able to get back all miles and money paid in advance, except for one American Airlines economy flight. We were penalized $198.00. I put in a claim online with Allianz. They processed the claim and deposited the money right into one of our bank accounts within 24 hours. How impressive is that. If needing trip/travelers insurance I would not hesitate to buy their insurance online. They do have different limits, but getting a quote is fast and easy. Year 5, Day 131, “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/08/2025 – The Wellington – We mowed the back lots. Then we mapped out where we want to build a small ranch.

We want to keep it small, inexpensive, and low to the ground. We are planning a front porch and a larger rear deck than we have now on maybe a 36×28 ranch. There will be a two car garage on the end. The layouts we keep looking at are just ideas. In the end Steve will draw the house he wants to build. Steve is slowly losing interest in the finishing touches that need to be done to complete this house. He loves the big projects.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 122 – The Wellington – Phishing call, Mexican lunch bd celebration for Koral

Year 5, Day 122, “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 8/30/2025 – The Wellington – Please be careful answering calls from unknown numbers. Last night i got a call saying one of my charge cards had a fraud detection. Okay so not that unusual. Then they stated that the charge was for a gun silencer for $3,000.00. So it started to sound suspicious. I immediately opened my app for that bank and saw nothing. Then they gave me the last 4 digits of my supposedly credit card Then started saying Do you authorize this. Awe no and I don’t have a credit card with those numbers. Then it dawned on me they were phishing for information. Yup, I hung up. That’s a first. Blocked that number along with the tons of numbers trying to sell old people insurance. I may be old, but not dumb guys. Mexican Labor Day lunch and Koral 20 year old birthday Celebration.

Living the Dream Year 5 Day 121 – The Wellington – Oak treads polyurethaned, tick bite

Year 5, Day 121, “Living the Dream”. Friday, 8/29/2025 – The Wellington –

The oak treads were polyurethaned. Another coat will be applied in the near future.

We cleaned the downstairs in preparation for the vinyl flooring to be completed. We want to get things ready for an appraisal within the next few weeks.

Also, the maple tree made it through the night. It may even be recovering a little.

We sure need rain around here. We are as dry as a dust bowl right now. The local farmers are starting to ask for prayers and doing rain dances. I have the feeling when that rain comes it is going to come in buckets.

Ticks must like dry weather. I found a tick the size of a sharp pencil point on me. We needed a magnifying glass to tell it was a tick. I have had some reaction to it.
