Living the Dream Year 6 Day 160 – Clifty Hill 3 – Framing Day 55, Garage floor complete, Berea College Mountain Day

Year 6, Day 160. “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 10/07/2026, Clifty Hill 3. Framing Day 55. Early Morning.

IMI concrete showed up a little before 7am.

K&T concrete from Stanford, KY was there and waiting in the dark. The first question the mason asked the truck driver was what his truck gauge said for the concrete slump and how far did he come. He then immediately told him to add two gallons of water. This crew was excellent. They did not fool around and went right to work. The concrete from IMI was fresh and had a nice flow to it. Once spread the cream came right to the top. It dried slowly and nicely. Not like the hot load we got from SRM concrete for our basement. We will never do our own concrete pours anymore unless it is a very small area. Look at the automatic wheelbarrow that Tony Morgan the mason used. How cool is that.

While the concrete garage was being poured, we worked on the basement windows.

After bringing an early lunch to Steve and Justin. Yes, I am the lunch wagon every day. Today’s lunch was grilled cheese sandwiches made with a mixture of American and Monterey Jack cheeses. A little bit of a spicy taste. Of course, the lunch wagon has fresh hot coffee, cold milk, and assorted different snacks every day. Lots of fruit, nuts, crackers, and cheeses. Bet you wish this lunch wagon came to your worksite every day.

The mason and his crew headed down to Somerset for lunch while the floor dried.

Bobi and I headed to the Pinnacles in Berea. Today is Berea College Mountain Day 2026.

Koral was singing and playing Harmonica in the Folk-Roots Ensemble. She was supposed to play guitar also, but her pin that holds her strap on broke.

After watching her performance and a few others we headed up town in Berea for a little coffee chat. Berea is a lovely college town.

After our coffee chat we dropped off Koral at her dorm and headed back to the worksite. Oh gosh the four basement windows were installed. We are almost totally closed in. The mason finished up around 3:30pm. The floor looks awesome. Tomorrow the last door will be installed and we will be closed in. Yes, we can finally go away.

Daily Reflection:

Here’s a link to today’s Amazon recommendation: https://link.amazon/B02mihjVt Crossbody Bag Insulated Carrier Purse Holder This vacation was the first I used this bag. It is perfect. It fits two bottles of water and all the other stuff you need for touring and walking around. The best part is the straps are adjustable and wide making the bag very comfortable and light.
