Year 4, Day 153 “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/30/2024. Day 20 of 25-day Alaska to Las Vegas. Day 3 of 4 nights Las Vegas. Casinos, casinos, casinos. According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, more than 150 casinos operate with 15 or more slot machines. Some casinos offer table games as well. There are also more than 300 smaller casinos and 2,000+ other slot machine parlors. Then there are solar panels, solar panels, and more solar panels. MGM Resorts relies on solar power for 90% of the total daytime needs. This applies to 11 of its Las Vegas Strip properties.

We went to the Venetian today. We had tickets to see The Sphere Experience. Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard From Earth was at 4:30pm. We parked at the Venetian garage for $18.00 for the day.

We walked around the mall there, watched the gondolas, played slots, and had lunch at the Grand Lux Cafe. Lunch was $75.00 which is pricey for a hamburger, chicken parmesan sandwich, a bottle of Coors Lite, and a coffee.

I was getting really excited about going to the Sphere show. We walked the two blocks to the Sphere show with thousands of other people. The Sphere has 875,000 square feet of space with an interior capacity of 18,600 seats. The exosphere is 30% taller than the interior dome. The dome’s roof required 3,000 tons of steel to construct, and includes 32 trusses that weigh 100 tons each. Upon entry you went into a large room where we saw the robots talking. It was kind of cool. We spent about 30 minutes wandering around. It was very crowded. I did notice there were alot of people speaking other then English in the crowd. We sat in section 406, row 9, seats 1 and 2. The seats are narrow and it gets pretty steep in the upper levels. We paid $228.00 for both of us to see the show/movie. Two cans of water were another $14.00. It was $20.00 if you wanted to purchase a can beer. Too much money for us to spend. Would I recommend going – NO – well maybe for $50.00 maximum each. There was a half hearted attempt with a 50 minute move telling us about destroyimg our planet and having to leave it to reflourish. The tale showed life rising from the oceans onto the land. It depicted the birth of human civilizations. Then it portrayed the future when humanity has to depart the Earth to settle another world. The screen was cool though.

Once it ended, we walked back. We picked up our car and headed back to the calmness of our hotel.

Here’s a video of our resort.
At first I didn’t like being a little out from the casinos, but after today I am so glad. I guess I don’t understand why people come to Las Vegas. We will probably never come back. It reminds us of Adult Disney world where anything goes and everything is expensive. Except the saying is what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. After going to Disney World you want to tell everyone everything. The Vegas motto questions how much money can be made off of these dumb fools. The dumb fools are us. I noticed one other thing here. If you want a massage just walk a couple hundred feet and you will find one. I have never seen so many massage establishments. But we are going back tomorrow to the Bellagio to see what that is like.
Things to ponder today! Have to leave you thinking.
