Year 3 Day 303 – “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 2/29/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Happy leap year day. Today occurs only once every four years. This is our first leap year in Kentucky. Leap year adds an extra day to the end of February to align our calendar with Earth’s orbit. Without Leap Days, in 100 years, calendars would be 24 days off. Babies born on Leap Day are referred to as “leaplings” or “leapers.” Less than .1% of the population share a leap day birthday. For someone born on February 29, the first day they can legally drive, vote, join the Army, buy alcohol or start collecting Social Security is presumably March 1 in non-leap years. In Scotland, there is a belief that people who are born on a leap day will experience a life filled with hardships. Overall, some consider leap year as a bad year for farmers. Some superstitions are that in a leap year the number of deaths also suddenly rises, and many people die in that particular year. There are so many different superstitions in different countries. In Taiwan, it is believed that elderly parents are more prone to passing away every four years. Therefore, married daughters are expected to come back home during leap years with pig trotter noodles for their parents. This noodle dish is believed to convey wishes of good health and fortune for the ageing parents. This soup is served to the parents throughout the month, specifically on February 29th. Pig’s trotters are a cut of pork comprising of the pig’s feet, typically from the ankle down. For next Leap Year which ship should we be on? The ships just keep getting bigger
