Year 3 Day 275 – “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 2/01/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – The foyer coat closet is completely framed.

Tomorrow, we need to get more 3/4″ plywood and 2×4’s. Steve says to always figure 200 extra 2×4’s when you build a house. We still need more. We used 2×6’s on the outside exterior walls. The 2×4’s are for interior wall framing.

We watched the movie NYAD last night. It was slow but very interesting and also a true story. After watching that woman try so many times to swim from Cuba to Florida and finally doing it at age 64, I started thinking about self-efficacy. That is the belief that you can effectively reach the goals you have. A person with high self-efficacy will view a challenge as something that they are supposed to master rather than threats to avoid. This enables them to recover from failure faster. They approach threatening situations with the belief that they can control the outcome. Those with a low sense of self-efficacy view difficult tasks as personal threats. They will shy away from them and lose faith in their own abilities after a failure. There is a definite link between your self-efficacy and your levels of stress and depression. How much of our self-efficacy is genetic versus taught? Are we raising our children to have high self-efficacy or are we falling short in our society? Is this what makes a good school versus a bad school? What can we do as parents raising our children? Students that have a strong sense of efficacy are more likely to challenge themselves with difficult tasks and be motivated. These students will put forth a high degree of effort in order to meet their commitments, and attribute failure to things which are in their control, rather than blaming external factors. Students with low self-efficacy, on the other hand, believe they cannot be successful and thus are less likely to make an extended effort and consider challenging tasks as threats that are to be avoided. Okay, on to my vegetable peeler mishap. Look at the below picture and you will see why I do not like nor use a vegetable peeler to peel potatoes. Bought a new peeler and said Hey I can use this for potatoes. Less wasted potato. Didn’t happen, I just peeled my fingernail. A knife is a safer bet for me!

Things to ponder today! Have to leave you thinking.

Cruise luggage tag holders – Here’s a link to today’s Amazon recommendation: https://amzn.to/48WJVSV These luggage tags are great for cruising. They are made to fit Royal Caribbean luggage tags, but we also use them when we take MSC cruises. No need to staple or tape your cruise luggage tags to your bags. Just fold the paper tag, insert into the plastic sleeve, and attach to your luggage handle with the Stainless-Steel Metal Rings.
