Year 3 Day 265 – “Living the Dream”. Monday, 1/22/2024. Day 11 of 12-day winter 2024 vacation. Driving from Little Rock, Arkansas to Science Hill, KY. We decided to jump up and get going before the freezing rain gets started. We are on the road at 5:30am. The rain has just started, but we are heading on Interstate 40 towards Memphis today and there are no winter advisories for that area. By 6:15 am we are out of the freezing rain. Do you ride down a highway and look at the houses and wonder who lives there? What do they do for a living? Are they employed, happy, sad, worried, old, young, lonely, sick, etc, etc,etc. Do they think like I do or are their thoughts entirely different? Are they warm on this cold morning? Are they thankful for what they have or are they angry at the world? At this very moment there are people experiencing every emotion there is. It is absolutely mind-blowing to think about. I try not to think about it because it hurts to know people are hurting right now and need help. So enough of this thought process which took place before 8am.
I think I need more coffee. At 8am we cross over the Mississippi River from Arkansas into Memphis, Tennessee.
It is turning into a nice sunny day. I am so glad we left early and got away from the freezing rain. Traveling further along in Tennessee we were pulled over and given a ticket for violating the Move over law. The police car was sitting on the side of the highway with no lights on. I thought the move over law was for vehicles with hazard lights or emergency lights on. Steve didn’t even realize it was a police car.
Further down on Interstate 40 we stop at a rest area, and I then realized how much Tennessee needs that ticket money. The sidewalks and parking lot were ice covered. I guess they can’t afford to salt and plow the rest areas.
We are greeted by White dog and his friends at the corner and pull into our driveway before dark. We are exhausted but loved seeing White dog.
Things to ponder today! Have to leave you thinking.
