Living the Dream Year 3 Day 152 – Day 1 of Avon North Carolina Beach Vacation – Beach fun

Year 3 Day 152 – “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 10/01/2023. Day one Avon, NC beach vacation. I found this old video for Avon, NC. You might find it interesting, I found it a little amusing.

We checked into our oceanfront house around 6:30pm. Dropped off some suitcases and headed to the only grocery store in Avon, NC. It was packed, shelves empty, and checkout lines backed up into the aisles. Very congested and hard to shop. It is turnover day on the home rentals in the area. In 2020 there were 474 residents in Avon. Avon is considered by many as the “Center of Hatteras Island”.. it is home to the island’s only chain grocery store and unspoiled gorgeous beaches. Its geographical location is about 20 miles off the coast of mainland North Carolina. Avon’s beaches are famous for being quiet, and clean. They are part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Avon beaches are governed by the National Park Service (NPS). The local NPS rules are always in place on the oceanside. You can visit the NPS website for more information. Got up early this morning to see the sun rise.

The house we are staying at is O’Sun and is oceanfront in Avon, NC which is part of the Outer Banks.

Before I can settle down and enjoy my stay, I had to take some pictures of the reasons why we will probably not rent this house again. There are a lot of lights out and the hallways are dark. The outside deck lights are out also. No one even cares about this house. It is very neglected, and I feel sorry for it.

Look at these stains on the window seat.

The microwave rangehood light is out and the fan filters are very disgusting,

There are chairs that are unsafe to even use.

The thought of the air we are breathing coming through that filter makes me want to hold my breath. How can people rent a house like this.

The windows and sliding door are filthy. They also need to be replaced as the windows are rotting and the back door slider barely opens.

The view from the house is wonderful and it is a quick easy walk over the dunes to the beach.

We spent a few hours on the beach exploring, taking pictures and fishing. The waves are extremely rough.

What cute sisters these are!

Steve checks out the construction of the house, decks, and the very different yard vegetation.

At home our cantaloupe that planted itself is still growing.

By the end of the day, I am dreaming of those cruise ship meals. I have to cook today. Say it isn’t so.

In the evening the deer are just hanging out between our house and the water. They are so beautiful, but small compared to New Jersey deer.

Here’s your thoughts for the day!

Today’s product recommendations are cruising essentials (paid links): 1) It is so nice not to have to worry about stapling your luggage tags to your luggage handles and to have them rip off. We have these plastic holders on our luggage and love them. We use them for Royal Caribbean cruises and also fold the MSC tags to fit in them when we travel with MSC cruise lines. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3RAGgED 2) A lanyard is great to have. It makes it so easy to carry your seapass card and some tip money around the ship. These are really nice. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3PTVLGB 3) I have found that a nice toiletry bag is essential, and this is the one I love. Here’s a link to it: https://amzn.to/3EO2Y4F 4) Packing cubes – I can’t say enough about them. I would never go on vacation without them again. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3Rxx8AA 5) You have to have a small purse for getting off at ports or for carrying a few things with you around the ship. Great for when you have no pockets to carry the cell phone. This one is beautiful. Here’s the link: https://amzn.to/3ETJNpS 6) Room Thermometer- I leave one of these packed in my bag. The temperature fluctuates so much, and I like to try and keep my room at a stable temperature. This keeps me honest with myself. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/46tNoXH
