Living the Dream Year 3 Day 146 – Day 5 of nine-night Canada and New England Cruise – Bar Harbor, Maine

Year 3 Day 146 – “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/25/2023. Bar Harbor, Maine today. Bar Harbor is the largest town on Mount Desert Island along Maine’s Frenchman Bay.

This morning the sunrise over the bay is glorious. The water is full of Lobster pots and small islands.

Maine lobster season is between late June and late December. That period is when the lobsters are most active. In Maine, a lobster’s body must be at least 3 1/4 inches to keep and can’t be over 5 inches. Maine is the largest lobster producing state in the nation. There are 3 million traps off the coast of Maine. They are distinguished by color patterns and design distinct to each owner. Each lobsterman is limited to 800 traps in the water at one time. More than 5.3 million lobsters are eaten annually in Bar Harbor. Maine has earned a reputation for having some of the best lobster on the East Coast. It is a tender day for us. Last time we were here we were anchored closer to the dock. You could see our cruise ship from the shore. This time we are parked behind an island and hidden from shore.

I am thinking that Bar Harbor wants the ships hidden. It makes the view from the shore so much nicer. You have to get a tender ticket from deck 5 dining room if you want to get off the ship early. We tendered in early.

As we approached the dock our welcoming committee was a flock of pigeons.

We walked up the hill into town.

Then back down through Agamont Park. The park is set up on a hill and you get great views of the Mount Desert Narrows, Frenchman Bay and its islands. If looking for free wifi this park has it, along with nice clean public restrooms.

We left the ship around 8am and tendered back around noon. Then we headed to the Windjammer for lunch.

Here’s a video of the Windjammer buffet at lunch time while anchored at Bar Harbor, Maine.

It was a lovely day.

Happy Daughter’s Day to Jenna and Bobi. Love you both. Thanks for always being there for us.

Today’s thoughts to ponder.

Today’s product recommendations are cruising essentials: 1) It is so nice not to have to worry about stapling your luggage tags to your luggage handles and to have them rip off. We have these plastic holders on our luggage and love them. We use them for Royal Caribbean cruises and also fold the MSC tags to fit in them when we travel with MSC cruise lines. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3RAGgED 2) A lanyard is great to have. It makes it so easy to carry your seapass card and some tip money around the ship. These are really nice. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3PTVLGB 3) I have found that a nice toiletry bag is essential, and this is the one I love. Here’s a link to it: https://amzn.to/3EO2Y4F 4) Packing cubes – I can’t say enough about them. I would never go on vacation without them again. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3Rxx8AA 5) You have to have a small purse for getting off at ports or for carrying a few things with you around the ship. Great for when you have no pockets to carry the cell phone. This one is beautiful. Here’s the link: https://amzn.to/3ETJNpS 6) Room Thermometer- I leave one of these packed in my bag. The temperature fluctuates so much, and I like to try and keep my room at a stable temperature. This keeps me honest with myself. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/46tNoXH
