Living the Dream Year 3 Day 137 – Clifty Hill 2 – Framing Day 28 – First sheathing day, understanding house plants

Year 3 Day 137 – “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 9/16/2023. Clifty Hill 2 – Framing day 28. Up showered and at Lowes when they opened at 6am.

We stopped at McDonald’s and had an Egg McMuffin. How gross are they? I can remember a time that I used to get so excited to stop and have one. The fact is the more you eat homemade fresh things the less you want fast food. Today I spent a lot of time taking care of my plants. House plants have different personalities just like people. Some like to be around people and they love being touched. They like being a part of the family and also crowded together with others. Other plants like to be left alone and not touched. Most plants get really worked up when you move them around. It takes them a long time to adjust. If you have taken care of a large number of house plants, you will realize this. They all like being talked to and recognized for their beauty and part of this world. The sheathing is going up with Justin’s help.

I spend a lot of time walking back and forth between the houses. Today I saw these beautiful butterflies. They were such a pretty really light blue. As far as I can tell These are eastern tailed-blue or eastern tailed blue, also known as Everes comyntas. They are a common butterfly of eastern North America. It is a small delicate butterfly that is distinguished from other blues in its range by the small thin tail.  As a caterpillar, the Eastern Tailed-Blue mainly eats yellow, sweet clover, regular clobber, wild peas, and alfalfa. As an adult, they eat mostly nectar found in flowers close to the ground, due to their low flight patterns. Their flight is weak and fluttery, and these tiny butterflies generally stay close to the ground. They often bask with wings partially open, allowing good looks at dorsal surfaces. Males sometimes congregate in large groups to seek nutrients from damp soil.  Both sexes are attracted to small, low-growing flowers. Watching them was so wonderful. They are light and airy, floating through the air on delicate wings. Nature is certainly beautiful.

The fields around us are barren fields of corn stalk stumps after being harvested. This is not a pretty sight. I can’t picture Laura Ingales coming over that hill now.

Spent a little time in the afternoon looking at our upcoming cruise weather. I think we are going to be wearing jeans and sweatshirts.

Here are your thoughts for the day. We love Dove dark chocolate and the sayings in the wrappers make them so much fun to eat.

Today’s product recommendations are for tools needed to put up window and door headers. Click on the links or one the pictures below. Either one will work. The first item is a wall jack. You can easily put up your headers with this. Here’s the link: https://amzn.to/3Lt6B3s and utube video of Steve using it: https://youtu.be/X10tCuBbsx8?si=j5nkRS8N2y0MlmzZ The second item is a framing nail gun. Steve uses Bostich. Here’s a link to one: https://amzn.to/3PpBGX0 Third item is a good 16-ounce hammer with a straight claw and a rubber grip. The straight claw is very useful for if you are sliding down the roof. You can use that claw. Just slam it into the roof to catch yourself. Believe me Steve knows how to do that from experience. He wouldn’t use anything other than a straight claw. Also make sure your hammer has a rubber grip. You will appreciate it after a full day of hammering your hand will be hurting without that rubber shock absorbing grip. Here’s the link: https://amzn.to/48ios76 The fourth item is an air compressor to run that nail gun. Steve has a Dewalt. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3EG9Oc7 To get that nail gun and compressor hooked up you need an air hose. 100 feet works great. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/3sPicn2
