Year 3 Day 84 – “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 7/25/2023. Clifty Hill 2 – Day 5 foundation block laying. By the time Steve gets set up and ready it is really hot. He is soaked and he hasn’t really started yet. Before he starts mixing the cement, he sets the blocks up in a row ready to go. The blocks are set on boards otherwise they are coated with dirt.
Another full truck of Dense grade was delivered. Steve backfilled in the trench around the foundation wall with dirt. We are now running water on the trench dirt to compact it. He will run the water for a good 48 hours. He has found in his 35 years of building a house the absolute best way to compact dirt under a cement floor is with water. Older masons always do this. It avoids cracking cement floors or a hallow space developing underneath the floor.
