Year 3 Day 19 – “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 5/21/2023. We uncovered the Oak stairs, and they look as good as the day they were installed. They were installed on 9/23/2021 and covered with five layers of builder’s paper. We have walked on that builder’s paper for 1 1/2 years. If you don’t keep them clean, they will not stain nicely.

We are using Minwax Golden Oak stain.

Tomorrow a coat of polyurethane will be applied. We placed cloths on each stair tread to protect them until the polyurethane can be applied.

When doing any staining be sure and protect your hands with gloves.

After removing the paper from the stairs. The stairs were vacuumed nicely and then sand papered with 120 grit sandpaper where any paint from the railing had gotten on any unfinished oak.

There was a little crack around the edge of the paper where a little paint had gotten through in a few spots. The oak stain was applied with a cloth.

The smell is not nice, and we have our doors open to allow some fresh air in. Trying not to kill our lungs and brain cells.

I worked on laundry and got paid. Someone didn’t empty their pockets. Nice clean money. It went through the washer and dryer. I read that 94% of our paper currency have cocaine on it and 93% also has staphylococcus on it. Fives and tens are more likely to be teeming with disease-causing bacteria. Some of these pathogens are known to survive for months. I also learned today some other cool currency facts. 1) Crane and Co., a Massachusetts-based company, has been providing the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing with paper for U.S. currency since 1879. 2) It would take 4,000 double folds, forwards and backwards, to tear a banknote. 3) It is estimated that between one-half to two-thirds of the value of all U.S. currency in circulation is outside of the U.S. 4) The $100,000 Gold Certificate is the highest denomination ever issued. It was in 1934 and was never intended for public use. It is solely for official transactions between Federal Reserve Banks. 5) The base of the pyramid on the back of every dollar bill are the Roman numerals MDCCLXXVI. That is the symbol for 1776, which is the date of the Declaration of Independence. 6) US currency is made of 25 percent linen and 75 percent cotton. 7) According to the Federal Reserve website the estimated Lifespan of paper currency is: $1 is 6.6 years, $5 is 4.7 years, $10 is 5.3 years, $20 is 7.8 years, $50 is 12.2 years, and $100 is 22.9 years. Denominations of $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 were issued until 1969 and last printed in 1945.

In the afternoon we looked at pavers for the sidewalk and the patio/firepit area.

Today’s product recommendations are for keeping your skin looking its best at sea and in the sun. My favorite skin care products are made by Elemis. Although I do sometimes try a new product here and there. I actually find myself going back to Elemis. 1) I start my morning in the shower with a face wash. Currently I am using ELEMIS Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash https://amzn.to/3qZkwqC 2) After showering I am currently using ELEMIS Superfood Facial Oil https://amzn.to/3XvfUVu 3) Then the Elemis Pro-Collagen Maine Cream with spf30 gets applied. It is the best. It costs a little more than the drug store creams but wow it works. Whenever I decide I want to buy another less expensive brand I am sorry and head right back to this cream. https://amzn.to/46sJZsH 4) Steve also uses an Elemis product. He tends to break out when he uses sunscreen often. He finds the ELEMIS Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads excellent to use. It cleans that sunscreen out of his pores. When he uses these pads to cleanse his face he does not break out. https://amzn.to/3px1oQn
