living the Dream – Year 2, Day 246

Year 2 – Day 246, Friday, December 30, 2022. This morning, sitting here listening to Heidi vacuuming away,

the washer and dryer running,

me preparing to go to the store in my SUV,

our refrigerator running and keeping food safe to eat,

and our ovens, microwaves, and ranges ready to go.

I realize how amazingly wonderful things are today compared to 100 years ago.

I am thankful for these conveniences. 100 years ago, you were lucky to have indoor plumbing and electrical lights. Oh yes, I was in my early teens before we had indoor plumbing. Here’s some interesting facts about 1922. 1) The average life expectancy for men was 47 years. 2) Fuel for cars was sold in drug stores only. 3) Only 14 percent of homes had a bathtub. 4) Only 8 percent of homes had a telephone. 5) The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. 6) The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower. 7) The average US wage was 22 cents per hour. 8) The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. 9) An accountant earned about $2,000 per year. 10) A dentist earned $2,500 per year. (Steve paid an oral surgeon $788 for 20 minutes work yesterday). 11) A Veterinarian earned between $1,500 and 4,000 per year. 12) A mechanical engineer earned about $5,000 per year. 13) More than 95 percent of all births took place at home. 14) Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools. 15) Most women washed their hair once a month and, used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. 16) Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering into their country for any reason. (As of January 1, 2023, Canada passed an Act, which prohibits non-Canadians from directly or indirectly purchasing residential property (or property that includes residential property) anywhere in Canada). 17) The American flag had 45 stars. 18) The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was only 30. 19) There was neither a Mother’s Day nor Father’s Day. 20) Two out of every 10 adults couldn’t read or write And, only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. 21) Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were available over the counter at local drugstores. 22) There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE USA. Did these 22 interesting facts blow your mind. They certainly did mine. We have come a long way baby! Imagine 100 years from now!! We are so fortunate to be where we are right now. Steve worked on more railing. It is looking so good.

In the morning it was in the 40’s. The temperature quickly rose to where it was 80 degrees on our deck in the afternoon. What the heck?

Have to try the local pizza place. It looks really nice.

This little cartoon reflects my other thoughts for the day. I think we all have unrealistic expectations in a lot of things in ourselves. Love yourself and be the best you can be.
