“Living the Dream” – Day 6 of our 1/2 world trip aka Year 2, Day 149, Friday, September 23, 2022. Welcome to Juneau, the capital of Alaska. We pulled in around 6am. The mountains are right there on both sides. Wow!!!. We are in the Gastineau Channel. Juneau is the second largest city in the United States by area. It is larger in area than Rhode Island and Delaware. It is located at the base of Mount Juneau and Douglas Island is across the channel. Juneau is unique among the 49 U.S. capitals on mainland North America in that there are no roads connecting the city to the rest of the state or North America. In order to get to Juneau you have to come by boat or plane. The water coming down the mountain is incredible to view. We found Alaska today lol. It is in the 40’s and very very windy and sleeting. What a miserable day. All seaplane and helicopter excursions have been canceled by 8;30am. We are wishing they would cancel ours. I don’t like the weather, but love the scenery. Around 9:40am our excursion to Mendenhall Glacier and Gardens is cancelled. So we headed out into the pouring rain to walk around town. We came to Alaska for one reason, we wanted to see a glacier. When we booked it in 2021, this ship was supposed to go up farther to the Endicott and Dawes Glacier. The ship had engine issues and fires since then. Two engines are out and therefore our route changed. We booked the glacier tour here in Juneau instead. I guess we really have to come back to Alaska to see a glacier. Instead, we visited some shops and took some pictures. Lots of bear here. The garbage cans are bear proof. Then headed back to the ship. We saw a lot of the crew lined up and eating at a food truck on the pier. That food truck must have good food with good prices. The crew always knows where to go. We have taken the crew shuttle places before from a cruise ship. Really inexpensive way to get around off the ship in some ports. We were soaking wet when we got back on the ship. This is the first port on this cruise where we had to show our picture ID to get back on the ship. Spent the afternoon socializing with some people from Southampton, England, the food and beverage head officer from Ireland, another couple from Maryland, and a young man from Texas. People are really talkative this afternoon. Tomorrow is a sea day.

Today’s product recommendations are traveling essentials. 1) Luggage hand cart – we love this cart for easy rolling for easy cruise carry-on bags. Even when you can’t go to your room right away this is so easy to walk around the ship with. Here’s the link https://amzn.to/3s37EOw

2) This large toiletry bag is the best. Steve has the black and I have the pink. We both absolutely love them. Here’s the link https://amzn.to/3v1p6ok and picture
