Living the Dream – Year 2, Day 108

“Living the Dream” – Year 2, Day 108, Sunday, August 14, 2022. First lateral was completed today and connected to the first distribution box which was connected to the existing septic tank.

The process took all day and involved multiple steps: First the hole was dug and measured for levelness. Then 1 1/2 to 2-inch clean stone about four inches deep was placed in the trench. Steve used the excavator to load the tractor trailer and made numerous trips back and forth to the trench. It was a grueling day.

Again, the levelness was checked using a transit.

After that the perforated PVC pipe was laid and more stone placed over the pipe. Then levelness measured again.

and the then the landscaper’s fabric was placed over the stone in the lateral.

It was a windy day and we had to place shovels full of dirt on the three rows of Landscaper’s fabric to keep it from blowing around. You don’t want the dirt to sift down into the stone and clog up the perforated pipe.

Then the dirt dug out originally was placed back in over the Landscaper’s fabric. Notice the standing pipe. That pipe will be cut level with the ground and capped off enabling the homeowner to look down and see if there is any water in the pipe. This same process will be done in all three laterals. This pipe also can serve as a clean out if the holes in the pipes ever were to get clogged.

Will call for an inspection tomorrow morning. Hopefully, we will be covering it up by tomorrow night. It is hooked up and working though. The way this system works is the liquid fills up the first lateral before it spills over and goes to the second. Then after the first and second lateral are saturated then it will flow into the third lateral. We probably will never even ever have anything flow into the second one.

Today’s product recommendations are traveling essentials.                                                    1) Luggage hand cart – we love this cart for easy rolling for easy cruise carry-on bags.  Even when you can’t go to your room right away this is so easy to walk around the ship with.  Here’s the link https://amzn.to/3s37EOw

2) This large toiletry bag is the best.  Steve has the black and I have the pink.  We both absolutely love them.  Here’s the link https://amzn.to/3v1p6ok and picture
