Living the Dream Day 130

Last night it got into the 50’s. But quickly warmed up today to 90 in the shade. Look at the steam coming off the cabin as the sun rises.

Today was mostly about getting the cement basement floor done. The first concrete truck came at 8am and the wheel barreling began.

Justin wheel barreled most of the time and Steve raked, tampered, and used a story pole to check the levelness.

As each section was completed the rebar was hammered down under the concrete. At 9:15 am the second truck was waiting to take over. By 9:30am the first had emptied the six yards into our basement. It was a perfect estimate. The first truck did half the basement.

Bobi came over as back up for wheel barreling. She was not needed though for that. She cleaned the tools and wheelbarrel up as needed.

The second truck was done about 11am. Each truck stopped at the end of our driveway and the drivers hosed them out real good. You don’t want that cement to harden in the truck.

Those trucks remind me of bees with a big stinger coming out the front.

It was a gorgeous day with very low humidity.

That made the concrete dry quicker. Justin used the brake and bent metal and finished around two of the basement windows.

Steve went back into the basement after lunch and started troweling and smoothing the cement floor. Around 3:30 it was drying so fast that Justin had to go in and use a sponge to wet the top back up while Steve continued troweling. They are both still working on it now. Steve will have to go over it one more time. Kneeling on those prayer boards is tough. Those boards are over twenty years old. So the wax on wax off will continue for a few more hours. They will sleep well tonight. It is four thirty and Steve is saying he doesn’t care what I say, he is an old man. So now they are both troweling.

Every step of the way is hard work when you are building a house.
