Year 4 Day 125 “Living the Dream”. Monday, 9/02/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Happy Labor Day. Labor Day is observed the first Monday in September and is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday in June 1894. Labor Day came about because workers felt they were spending too many hours and days on the job.

We did a little bit of labor in the morning: electrical finishings and the never-ending dusting.

Then it was out for lunch and back to the house to hang out or sleep.

It was a beautiful cool low humidity breezy day.

Year 4 Day 123 “Living the Dream”. Saturday, 8/31/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – The downstairs bathroom framing is being worked on.

While they work, I sit and order from my friends at Lowes. Nothing better than online ordering. You just zip in and it is ready for you. I can avoid wandering the Lowe’s store looking for what is needed. Plus, ordering through American Airlines eshopping gives me miles. It is a win win!

I am trying to keep my furniture dust free. It seems to be a constant dusting job.

We now have a planter full of ivy by the front door. The Ivy should live year-round in that planter. Thinking of the front door painting. It will be black, but not sure if it will be all black or black and white. The deck will be gray and will have railing at some point.

Year 4 Day 122 “Living the Dream”. Friday, 8/30/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – A large portion of the day was spent pressure testing the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning) system. There were two leaks found right away and fixed. The vacuum pump Steve was using is not strong enough to test the system correctly. So, what do you know we have a new stronger better one coming. Another tool is now added to our collection.

The rest of the day was spent putting up dry wall to cover the areas that were left open for the hvac inspection. Then work was done on the lower-level bathroom. The lower level of the home is turning out great for a limited mobility person.

Year 4 Day 121 “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 8/29/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – HVAC rough in inspection was done and passed by 10am. No problems at all. Working on framing downstairs bathroom. Next inspection is electrical turn on. House has to be fully dry walled with all wires covered.

Looking at granite prices for the kitchen counter and master bathroom. We plan to use the same granite in the kitchen as the Williamsburg.

At 6pm the temperature is 93 degrees Fahrenheit inside. Another heat wave has hit.

Year 4 Day 115 “Living the Dream”. Friday, 8/23/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Another Hvac return line workday. Taping the seams on all the duct work takes a long time. It is very important to be really conscientious while taping. It is a tedious job with your hands above your head the whole time. The hvac lines have to be airtight. We used 564 feet of aluminum tape. Okay, I should not say we, Justin did all the taping. Wonder how his arms are feeling.

Our vacation is coming soon so I am considering purchasing new suitcases. The big question is soft versus hard. Steve likes soft and I think I like the hard ones. The last trip to Europe really did Steve’s wheels in. My hardcase suitcase is in great condition outside, but the inside is ripped up. It is a big decision because our upcoming trip will take us on all modes of transportation. These suitcases will be taking a lot of moving around on trains, planes, automobiles, and ships. No one will be babying them.

Year 4 Day 113 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 8/21/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – This morning was weird. I am up at 4:30am every morning. Of course, the concrete truck was coming this morning at 8am and I slept until 6:30am. What is that about. I never thought I would need an alarm. The concrete company always wants you to call the morning of delivery to verify you want the delivery before they load a truck. They open at 6am. Justin was here at 7:30am and SRM concrete was here at exactly 8am with our two yards of 3500 PSI concrete. Since the order was so small we were charged a delivery fee of $150.00. Total cost of the concrete was $523.64. At the time when the rest of the lower-level floor was poured, we could not do this bathroom as we still needed a rough in plumbing inspection. Justin wheel barrowed the concrete and dumped it in the lower-level bathroom. Steve worked on leveling and jitterbugging. The first few wheelbarrows dumped were way too stiff. We asked for it to be wet up some. It was a little too wet after that. The good thing about wet concrete is that it basically levels itself. The bad thing about really wet concrete is that it tends to have little cracks after it dries.

The rest of the day was spent on hvac duct work. It is hvac day 7 and the supply lines are complete.

Year 4 Day 112 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 8/20/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Concrete is coming tomorrow for the lower-level bathroom floor. A large part of today was spent getting ready for the pour tomorrow.

More hvac duct parts were picked up.

Steve worked on painting the trim white on the shed while I repotted most of the houseplants in the afternoon. These plants are thriving at this construction site. They have all outgrown their pots and were crying for help.

The closet vanity is ordered. The closet and light will be like what was in the Williamsburg. But the vanity will be facing the window wall. In the Williamsburg it faced the side wall. Ao the design is a little different. Everything is custom designed in this house.

Year 4 Day 106 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 8/14/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Day 3 hvac. Steve worked late last night which he usually doesn’t. He is fairly stressed about putting in this hvac system. He can do anything, but first time with anything is hard and this is a first hvac total job for him. All I know is, it will be perfect. He can do anything. I am not concerned.

We have this tradition that no matter where you are you always call and sing Happy Birthday to members of your family. So today it was a Happy Birthday song call to Marley. SHE IS 21. WOOHOO!

Year 4 Day 105 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday 8/13/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – I had an early birthday lunch date with Marley. She will be 21 tomorrow. What an exciting age to be. She is starting an EMT program on Friday and is super excited about that. We are so proud of her. I loved spending time with her.

Year 4 Day 104 “Living the Dream”. Monday, 8/12/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – I found Ashley’s Garden Center today. It is a super nice garden center. We are looking for a Weeping Japanese red lacy maple tree and Lowes basically has no trees. This nursery is fantastic with good prices and beautiful shrubbery and trees. I can’t believe we have been buying our landscaping plants from Lowe’s.

Steve and Justin worked on the hvac. It is amazing how much they got done. If the hvac installation progresses like it did today, we will be calling for a rough in inspection next week. Another super great thing is tonight is night number three of cooler weather and no air conditioner or generator needed. Loving the quiet nights.

Year 4 Day 103 “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 8/11/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – We planted some nice ornamental grass in the afternoon and then headed to dinner at the Texas Roadhouse. Justin and Bobi surprised me by showing up and treating us to dinner for my birthday which was last week. They were away on vacation last week. The food was so yummy. It was so much fun to be out with them that I forgot to take pictures. Having fun means no pictures. It seems the more emotionally connected to what is happening the less pictures I take. The electric now works in the master bedroom. It is hooked up to the batteries. Justin worked on staining the shed while Steve hooked up the master bedroom electric and primed the master bathroom and closet area. The shed t111 just sucks up paint. I had to buy another two gallons today. That is four gallons of stain for the shed.

Year 4 Day 100 “Living the Dream”. Thursday, 8/08/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Happy 16th Anniversary to Jenna and Jamie. What a great family and life they have created. It is amazing how quickly time passes. Their wedding day seems like yesterday. So happy for them.

Today for us is a painting day and lunch out with a friend/neighbor at a little local Mexican Restaurant. Speedy Taco is a great little restaurant in Science Hill, KY where you get good food which is served in a clean establishment with excellent friendly help. Year 4 Day 99 “Living the Dream”. Wednesday, 8/07/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Today is my birthday. Honestly, I try to forget my birthday every year. I do want to thank the hundreds of followers, friends, and family who took time out to wish me a Happy Birthday though. You guys would not let me forget the day and those thoughts and wishes made a bad feeling day great. I picked up the master bedroom suite paint in the morning and the painting started in the afternoon. I love the color, but I can’t decide if the color Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams is a blue, green, or gray. It seems to depend on the time of day and where the sun is coming from.

The plan was to cook chicken, potatoes, and broccoli for dinner. I am starting to get pretty good at using aluminum foil and the gas grill as an oven. Well unless you ask Steve. I made pizza the other night and it was a little well done and he keeps telling everyone I burnt his dinner. At the last minute after much prompting from Jenna. We decided to go out and get a quick simple dinner at Bob Evans. Well remember how I said that the Bob Evans in Somerset was the best for breakfast. I still think that even after a few Sunday morning meals. But dinner I would not recommend. The grilled chicken was extremely tough, and the rolls were really weird tasting. The employees and the desert were fantastic though. The Double-Crust Apple Pie a La Mode was wickedly good, but not something you should eat often. A few days’ worth of calories in one serving. I think maybe the herbal tea washed those calories away – lol.

I ended the day thinking deeply about the Frank Lloyd Wright quote. “The longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes.”

Year 4 Day 98 “Living the Dream”. Tuesday, 8/06/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – Time to paint the ceilings in the master bedroom suite area.

In the afternoon we picked up bales of hay from the neighbor’s field. The hay is so nice that we feel bad using it over grass seed. We briefly discussed getting a cow. But when I say briefly, I really mean briefly. We both started laughing pretty quickly. No. I don’t think so. We have way too many places to go and see yet.

Year 4 Day 96 “Living the Dream”. Sunday, 8/04/2024. Clifty Hill 2 – We have flys, bees, and spiders in our house. And now frogs are trying to get in.

We bought our master bathroom tile today. That is a lot of work to do!!! This house is a never-ending job.
