The town is constantly cutting back the weeds on the side of the road. They grow very fast in this area. It does slow your travels down a little though. Science Hill, KY does a great job with keeping their roads maintained. There are no potholes, but of course they use very little salt and not much if any plowing goes on from what I hear. I do hear that the ice storms are horrendous though. They just close the schools when the roads get ice covered, wait for the temperatures to rise, and the ice to melt. Our plan is to be cruising for the total winter time. See you in the Spring!!
Steve takes a foundation seriously. He always says if the foundation is no good the house is not worth fixing. That is why we are not fixing the existing house.
The framing now seems to be progressing quickly. The first floor box sill and floor joists are moving along.
We found these adjustable Jackposts and replaced the wood supports with them. They will be replaced with Lally columns as soon as we can locate them. These adjustable ones do not support the weight that we want. A Lally column is a concrete-filled cylindrical steel structural column. Steve used to have them made to the size he needed at the local Steel company in New Jersey. I am looking to have three made by a steel manufacturing company in Michigan and shipped here.
